about richard jackman: he steped in Pronger's shoes when he was suspended... he scored 2 great and important goals. It's hard to stand out when you play with pronger, niedermayer and beauchemin, but jackman really proved himself as a great defensman that could play in any other nhl team in the second line (except detroit maybe)... he has speed, is good with the stick, has a solid shot and good vision... but sometimes he just try to hold the puck for too long and then loses it

i asked kings fans on their forum how they remember derek bekar (he played 6 games for the kings and 2 seasons for monarchs)...here are their answers:
I remember him as a good skating energy guy that really couldn't do much at the NHL level.
His brother actually posted here a few times. He's a typical "filler"... nice guy... but that's about it.
I remember him playing in pre-season games, but that's about it. Nothing special...
put it this way... Derek Bekar was a player you HOPE Dustin Brown doesn't end up changing his name to.
He made the Kings out of camp that year. Was a tall LW but didn't show much in those 6 games. Didn't seem fast, or create any offense. They sent him down, and brought up Armstrong, and the rest is history.
Derek played in the home opener in 2002, the night that they retired Wayne Gretzky's #99. I think his mom bought Dereks pre-game #99 sweater in the silent auction at the game. I still have the line-up card from that game.

you just can not compare olimpija that played in interliga last year and olimpija taht will play in ebel league... new players that strenghten olimpija aregoalkeeper:
Alex Westlund(ZDA) (Hartford Wolf Pack)defencemans:
Žiga Pavlin (Banque Royal Slavija)
Greg Kuznik(SLO/ZDA) (SHC Fassa)
Kevin Mitchell(ZDA) (Hamburg Freezers)
Jeremiah McCarthy (ZDA)forwards:
Nik Zupancic (Lustenau)
Dejan Kontrec (Banque Royal Slavija)
Tomaž Vnuk (Acroni Jesenice)
Jaka Avgustincic (Banque Royal Slavija)
Kenny Corupe(CAN) (SG Cortina)
Ryan Jardine(CAN) (Mora IK)
Brendan Yarema(CAN) (Rögle BK)and which new players strenghten alba? Michal Dostal, Andras Benk, Viktor Tokai and Andras Horvath and that is pretty much all... and these are all players that played in 3rd leagues in germany and sweden... not good enough for ebel league in my opinion
-
in todays interview for Ekipa the president of Olimpija Mitja Mejac said that the boudget will be 1,5 mio Euros
-
i think this points sytem was made specificaly for austrian player market, and can not possibly stand for jesenice, olimpija and alba... i agree that the rules should be equall for all teams in the same league and this is the main resaon why i am against this points system which is logical only for austrian clubs and i think it is a huge problem for a joint ebel league...

a rumour

As far as I know this system of evaluating a player's strength and expressing it by points will only be effective for the Austrian clubs, as the reason for this originates in the Austrian player market with all its characteristics. This system would not make sense for the non-Austrian teams, as their player market is completely different comapred to the Austrian.
totally agree, but i don't think it is very good for the league that differnt clubs have different rules...one more question... how many "foreign" players can play for jesenice, olimpija and alba this season?

no at the moment this system should be gernerally applicable for all teams .
that makes sense... but i wonder how will this system affect jesenice, and especially alba... -
one question? is this points system only for austrian clubs? because there's no logic for this system to be valid for both slovenian clubs, and especially not for Alba, where the whole hungarian national team will be gathered...
but on the other hand, if ebel league wants to keep the credibility of the competition, the rules should be equal for all teams who compete in the ebel league, and with this points system this is just not possible
-
great post nordiques!
i am following ebel league for three years now, and i must say that all the important decisions were done right and because of that ebel league is from year to year stronger and more interesting...
because of that i am now that more surprised that something so stupid as this points system was accepted... i mean for Christs sake, what the hell is that?
Which purpose will this points system serve? As a salary cap? NO! For young players to get more ice time? NO! More equal and interesting league? NO! Lower budgets for clubs? NO! Long-term stability for clubs? NO! More focus on raising new talents? NO!
i think this points system is just a forced compromise and it is bad for both austrian hockey, slovenian hockey and for the ebel league and most of its clubs!

Viertelfinale:
1. - 8.
2. - 7.
3. - 6.
4. - 5.dann Halbinale und Finale
Der neue Modus gefällt mir sehr gut! Es wird sicher eine tolle Saison 2007/08!
i think this is a pretty good system that has some advantages, especially for bottom teams and for young players that will get more ice time in first 36 rounds.
But i think my suggestion with 3x18 games in the regular season would still be better, where the points would be reduced to half after round 18 and round 36.... that would keep bottom clubs in contention, but regular season would remain important... for play offs i would cancel quater finals (8 out of 10 clubs in play offs is too much!!!), first and second club would be dirrectly in semi-finals, and 3rd with 6th and 4th with 5th club would play one additional game for semi finals.
I know there would be some problems with the number of games and schedule because austria and hungary are in division I, and the league must end earlier, but if the start of the season is moved from 21. Sept to 7. Sept this problem is solved
-
the gap between elite division and division I is from year to year bigger so i am sure austria won't have bigger problems to return back in the elite... you are maybe a little affraid of Kazahstan, but i watched the deciding game between them and Frnce and they were really nothing special...
-
i am a little dissapointed with the way austria plays in russia, but i still think you should win this game

There are neighborhoods in Toronto that have easily over 100 registered hockey players. The two-million nation of Slovenia has just about that. But today, that number is irrelevant. Slovenia is promoted to the 2008 IIHF World Championship in Canada after winning its fourth consecutive game at the Division I World Championship at home in Ljubljana.
Slovenia defeated Japan 7-1 with superstar Anze Kopitar recording four assists, giving the Los Angeles King one goal and eleven assists for twelve points in four games. The capacity crowd (5.000) fans at the Hala Tivoli in Ljubljana was singing and jumping as the clock wound down, celebrating another against-all-odds participation of their national team among the Top-16 hockey nations in the world. Even the VIPs and the politicians went crazy a little bit.
The remaining game against Lithuania on Saturday will not have any bearing on the final standing, as neither Lithuania nor Hungary can catch the home favorites. Slovenia has been in the elite division four times (2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006) with 13th as the best position in 2002 and 2005. The team was relegated last year in Riga, Latvia after failing to hold on to a 3-0-lead in the decisive relegation game against Italy.
There were no failures in the decisive game in Ljubljana. Slovenia took the lead after 6.34 when defenseman Uros Vidmar banged in a rebound after constant pressure from the home team. Three goals were scored within 1.16 late in the period. Anze Terlikar made it 2-0 deflecting a pass from Jaka Avgustincic, Takahito Suzuki got one back for Japan 50 seconds later, but Anze Kopitar made sure that the fans didnt have to get anxious.
The 19-year old jumped on a two-on-one break and the pass to Tomaz Razingar was meant to be one-timed, 3-1. Kopitar also initiated the play behind the Japanese goal that led to the fourth goal 4.36 into the second period. He fed Razingar who slid it out in front for Milan Hafner who put the puck behind Naoya Kikuchi. Kopitar also had two assists in the last period, both power-play goals. The first by Razingar, his fifth of the championship, the second by Mitja Sotlar. And if the celebrations in the capital Ljubljana haven't ended, they are still going on.

hala tivoli has been renovated and looks much much better than podmezakla... here are some pics from yesterday's game between slovenia and GB in hala Tivoli:
-
i don't understand some of you here... i think you should be pleased that Austrian league is becoming stronger and that has more and more competitive and versitile clubs... there will be still lots and lots of games between austrian clubs, but your league will be ritcher for international charge... new rivalries will be born and i think this is only positive!
-
from a pretty credible source olimpija team should look something like this:
defence: Hill in McCharty
forwards: Dickenson, Corupe, Souza.
goallie: should be Frankhouser, there are some rumors about Gaber Glavicfrom slovenian players besides Vnuk (confirmed transfer) also Dejan Kontrec, Greg Kuznik, Peter Slamiar (if he gets slovenian passport), there are talks with Dervaric
optional are also Blaz Emersic and Matic Kralj, maybe also Nik Zupancic
from current players will stay only Music, Hocevar, Mohoric, Ciglenecki, Groznik
-
about the interest for hockey in Ljubljana: all slovenian games are already sold out, and the championship doesn't even started yet... i think that's a great sign for Olimpija
-
Congrats to Salzburg for the 1st titel! It was well deserved, you really had the best team this season.
