First on a general note: Who came up with idea to clean the ice before the penalties? That kills all the momentum and is deadly boring!

BUT...that icecleaning was still more exciting than the match today. Possibly the worst hockey match i have ever seen. I shouldnt mention any names, but Sarault looks like a terrible signing. I actually felt bad for Rotter today who had to play in line with him...Rotter, Cassivi and Bouchard was the positives in my eyes.

What we have to learn as fans of an offense oriented team is the fact, that in the playoffs the first thing is to avoid defeats, not to achieve victories(and hopefully Gaudet knows that!). That's a completely other playing-style, which we are not used to in Vienna. To perform this (playoff) style you basically need physical strong players, that are able to play simple without failures. The only thing, that counts is the result, not the show!

Im almost turned on by reading this :) Perfectly put and this is what playoffs is all about.

However i dont share you optimism around Gaudet. I think he will continue like he always does:
    - plan A: Gratton
    - plan B: Rodmans
    - plan C: doesnt excist.

But hopefully you are right and things will change, it just seems to me like whenever Capitals are playing in a match that reminds me of playoffhockey (graz and Vsv away the last 2 weeks for example) then Capitals comes out as losers.

    Lebeau --> totalversage
Rodmänner udn Rotter --> Holiday on Ice
    usw......

The reason for me being so dark after a defeat or two is that Capitals always seem to lose the important matches. And we all know that playoff is important matches. It doesnt matter if you beat Zagreb 7-1 in the league...

Regarding Rodmans, i thought they had a reputation of being playoff-chokers, never be able to get it right when it matters the most. Why do you think it will change this season?

    Mature contribution.

Why are you mentioning Rotter, Gratton, Lakos and Sarault together with Lebeau?

Lebeau is 40 years old and always injured. The rest of them are not.

What did he do in the playoffs last year? Hardly anything and got injured. Now he is one year older and has been injured over 50% of the season. He will get injured again.

    Last 10 matches for Pat:
    Graz home: 1+1 for Pat
    Linz: away: 1+0 for Pat
    VSV home 0+1 for Pat
Olimpia - away 2+1 for Pat
    Jesnice away: 0+0 for Pat
    Linz away 0+3 for Pat
Zagreb - home 0+1 for Pat
Olimpia - Home 0+3 for Pat
Graz - away 0+0 for Pat
VSV - away 0+1 for Pat

Total of 4+11 on 10 matches. 2+4 of these came in matches against Ljubljana. The remaining 8 is then 2+7, nowhere near to zwei bis drei assists per match. When the going gets tough, Pat is nowhere to be seen.

You are right though, he will play for Capitals the whole season. But he will never win anything.

uiuiui unsere Ausfallliste wird schon wieder länger. Wer wird morgen aller NICHT spielen?

    • Kranjc (Saison-Ende?)
    • Ofner (Saison-Ende?)
    • Gratton (gesperrt)

Finally someone else see the non-value of mr.Invisible, Pat Lebeau. He never does anything in important matches any more. He will also get injured at least 2 more times this season and 2 playoff matches is maximum. Get him out and get a new player in!

Gratton is no problem, the others are more worrying. I have a feeling it will be 5 semis against RBS this season too...and good bye. The squad might be better than last year, but something is wrong...there are too many injuries and the star players are too vounerable.

Totally different kind of a player. Would not fit into that role... besides I don't like Banaham that much.

I am just wondering... Lebeau had surgery already didn't he? Is this an old quote or would there be another one? [kopf]

This was Gaudet after the match yesterday. Lebeau is almost 100 years old, you always take a risk when you sign so old players.

I wasnt aware that EBEL teams couldnt trade players during the season. Of course, Banham is a very different type than Lebeau. It would have been very interesting to see Banham and Gratton in the same line, but it will remain a dream then :)

How about Travis Brigley? Is that allowed when he is free from his Ljubljana-contract?

The KAC offers "Club TV" on their website (http://www.kac.at/webchannel/). There you can watch the highlights of the home games of the team and also some short interviews. The video and sound isn't real high quality, but like you mentioned, it is enough to get a look at some of the game highlights.

I wasnt aware of this, not bad at all. But it was almost too fancy for me (i only looked at the Jesenice match). Show the goals and have some info about time of goal, goalscorer and assist...then you can have the fancy stuff after the goals are shown :)

Hi, i only have good things tosay about austrian icehockey, but there is one thing im missing.

    Club TVs!

Not on the cable or FTA but online. Almost all of the clubs in the norwegian league goes online the day after the match with the highlights from the match. Goals, tackles, fights and maybe some interviews.

Stavanger Oilers - Stjernen: http://www.oilers.no/index.cfm?id=271669 (OilersTV)

Storhamar - Stavanger Oilers: http://dragons.no/DragonsTv/tabid/3178/Default.aspx (DragonsTV)

Frisk Asker - Vålerenga: http://www.frisktigers.no/index.php?module=pagesetter&func=viewpub&tid=10&pid=78 (FriskTV)

    Lillehammer - Frisk Asker: http://www.lillehammerik.idrett.no/contents/visny…p?nyhetsid=2971

    Lørenskog - Sparta Sarpsborg: http://film.lik.no/wmv/20100103_LIK-Sparta.wmv

It is not great, but it gives you a chance to look at the goals from the other matches (I know ORF show icehockey on late fridays). Also some of the teams are you using youtube, specially the non-austrian ones. Last year Capitals had some planetlinz (?) thing, but never anything from the actual matches, on postmatch interviews. But im sure some of the teams are taping their matches, i think it would be great if austrian teams also started showing highlights online from their matches. Im fully aware it takes some time to record the match and then make a highlight video, but it doesnt have to be anything fancy...the hockeyfans love anything that gives them a taste of hockey :)

On the 15th of january the swedish teams will say yes or no to the new EHL.

A league that will be a copy of NHL and include teams from:
"Ligan ska innehålla lag från Sverige, Norge, Finland, Österrike, Tyskland, Schweiz och eventuellt Tjeckien och Slovakien. "

    http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/ho…ticle6365334.ab

So...Salzburg? KAC? or the mighty Vienna Capitals? Who is most ready? Who will get the offer? And is there any point to say yes?

And what will happen to the national leagues if this happens? If the 1-2-3 best teams from Norway and Austria are removed from their nation leagues the level for the rest of the teams is pretty poor.

Jakobsen’s Olympic comeback after 16 years

When the Norwegians won the qualification tournament in Oslo in February, they achieved an Olympic comeback after a 16-year absence. The last time the Norwegians played hockey at the Olympics was in 1994 when they hosted it in Lillehammer.

The only player who was part of the Lillehammer team is 39-year-old defenceman Tommy Jakobsen. He returned to Norway last summer after a 13-year career in Germany and Austria.

Head coach Roy Johansen represented Norway in three Olympic Winter Games (1984, 1988, 1992).

Johansen’s roster is similar to the national team Norwegian fans have cheered on in recent years. Twenty-one out of the 23 players dressed for Norway in the 2009 World Championship.

The only big absentee is veteran defenceman Anders Myrvold. This former NHLer (Colorado, Boston, New York Islanders, and Detroit) was not put on the list for Vancouver 2010.

Most of the players (11) come from the Swedish Elitserien, the most popular destination for top players from Norway and Denmark. Six players come from the Norwegian league, and three from the German DEL.

The biggest stars are 25-year-old Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Ole Kristian Tollefsen and former NHLer Patrick Thoresen. The 26-year-old forward plays for Salavat Yulayev Ufa, and is sixth in scoring in the Russian KHL.

The whole squad (for specially interested ;-))

    Goalies (3):

    Pål Grotnes Stjernen
    Andre Lysenstøen Haki (FIN)
    Ruben Smith Storhamar

    Defenders (7):

    Alexander Bonsaksen Modo (SWE)
    Jonas Holøs Färjestad (SWE)
    Tommy Jakobsen Lørenskog
    Juha Kaunismäki Stavanger Oilers
    Lars Erik Lund Vålerenga
Ole Kristian Tollefsen Philadelphia Flyers (USA)
    Mats Trygg Kölner Haie (GER)

    Forwards (13):

Morten Ask Thomas Sabo Tigers (GER)
    Anders Bastiansen Färjestad (SWE)
    Kristian Forsberg Modo (SWE)
    Mads Hansen Brynäs (SWE)
    Marius Holtet Färjestad (SWE)
    Lars Erik Spets Vålerenga
    Mathis Olimb Frölunda (SWE)
    Martin Røymark Frölunda (SWE)
    Per-Åge Skrøder Modo (SWE)
    Patrick Thoresen Ufa Salavat (RUS)
    Tore Vikingstad Hannover Scorpions (GER)
    Martin Laumann Ylven Linlöping (SWE)
    Mats Zuccarello Aasen Modo (SWE)

The main thing about the olympics for a norwegian is anyway that Sweden doesnt win!

    No.

Overacting from Lebeau and Gratton (sorry to say it but thats the way i see it)

The worst foul in the match was from Lakos and his tackling against the knee on Sandrock. Sandrock also left the ice cause of this tackle.

Zagrebs goalkeepers and the referees were on the same level in this match. All of them doing everything to make the Capitals win secure.

    And im a Capitals fan...

I understand there is always a discussion in most countries about rules about foreign players in national leagues, specially in Europe.

In Norway they tried some years ago to make the following rules:
2006-max 9 foreign players on the ice (could be more in the team..this is very expensive, but techincally no rules for numbers of players in the squad)
    2007-max 8
    2008-max 7
2009-max 6...but then the clubs realize, we dont have enough players to do this, so the level was set to 7. The result if this happens is that the quality on the ice will become so poor that the audience will no longer come to watch this. Another problem that occured was that the norwegian players demanded too much in salary..they knew that their value had gone up, so they could make higher demands. And the quality of the league became worse and does that really help to develop players?

In my eyes the main problem of austrian icehockey is that you have only 6 teams in your top league. Not the number of foreign players or the quality on the ice. The foreign players are mainly of a level that makes the league atractive. Keep 4 teams from HUN/SLO/CRO and extrend the league with 2 teams from the west, then you would have an even better league in my eyes. (Of course i understand there are economical questions and such here, but my point is: to reduce number of foreign players will not necessarily be the solution to all tasks ahead)
