Ploner is a great prospect. I'm not sure he is 1.85 meters quite yet but he's big and strong. It does not seem he is as good as the other forwards in the class however. Still has a lot of time to develop, I'm very optimistic about him but so far he has merely been outshone. He played U20 because Innsbruck does not have a U18 team.Wetzelsberger finally appeared in the last roster, the 6 nations tournament, and I was happy that he did. Played in Finland but played U16 and was around or below average. He has a lot of potential however and I could see him developing very well. It was good to see at the very end of the season that his talent was noticed and recognized.
Something I would be interested to see is Rebernig being promoted to the top line with Baumgartner and Rossi. The latter two play magic hockey haha, the old idiom "they move like they're on skates." Huber is a little too slow and too poor a skater to keep up with them right now but Rebernig would bring the size and power to win the 1v1 battles along the boards that Rossi and Baumgartner struggle to win as well as the speed to keep up with them. Rebernig has the biggest "freak" factor in the class, he is an incredible force of nature. Hockey IQ and technical skills are dubious but on line one he could do the dirty work for Rossi and Baumgartner and shoot when they pass to him in front of the net.

I wasn't comparing year to year players, just players within a single year, which is what I think you're trying to say. It is impossible to compare a Marco Rossi to Mario Huber I agree...interessanter Ansatz, kannst mir bitte mehr dazu schreiben? was fehlt ihm in welchen Situationen und wo du dies festgestellt hast?
I personally have never gotten the feeling that he lacks in hockey sense. There is a general perception that bigger players lack hockey sense, and this is slightly more true for Max Rebernig who missed the cut, but I haven't perceived that Huber lacks anything there. The main weaknesses of Paul Huber are that he is soft, he does not use his body well for 6'2" 181, and is a poor skater. Respectfully, I don't think smaller forwards are the way to promotion either or we would've done wonderfully in the WM-18 this year. I watched all of all the 5 Minsk games, the forwards were too small so they were dispossessed of the puck with ease. If they had hockey sense, they never would have gotten the chance to show it because they could not hold on to the puck for more than one or two seconds...Baumgartner and Rossi are great against U16 competition at maintaining puck control despite their size deficiencies by effective use of their body and also being extremely quick/explosive. Even at the next level this is perhaps harder to project however when the opposing team's defenseman has suddenly gained 15 pounds.

The 2000 class is just wonderfully talented however, it's very hard to choose. Baumgartner, Maier, and Payr are very obvious choices. Huber and Rebernig are incredibly imposing forwards. Rebernig is the most physically gifted player in the class, he's extremely quickly and fairly fast, he's strong and he has good instincts, his skills however are not so refined. Huber is not as athletically gifted but he is extremely skilled technically and is still extremely strong and athletic, plays like a 188 cm Marco Rossi. Matteo Peskoller and Lukas Jaunegg are two large defenders. Peskoller is build like a JV American football player, and is a very good passer. Jaunegg is even taller, he needs to become stronger and improve his offensive skills but he is an extremely good defender and shows athletic potential. Then Lanzinger, despite being short is built very well, if he could grow and avoid any more injuries as well as improving his performance against quality competition he will have an extremely bright future. Behind them is Dominik Rauter. He began the season on a line with Payr but was demoted and David Maier was promoted. Rauter is loose with the puck and doesn't demonstrate good passing or shooting skills. He does have quite a bit of upside to him however, plays like a smaller, slower, less technically sound Payr. Then there are Fabian Sertschnig and Benedikt Wohlfahrt. Wohlfahrt is physically gifted, which has allowed him to play at the U20 level and has the speed to play on a line with Baumgartner and Rossi but is noticeably weaker than the two. Sertschnig flies heavily under the radar with talents like Lanzinger and Wohlfarht on his team but actually outscored Wohlfahrt in U16 league play. Then there is Patrick Antal who I haven't seen play however his stats this past season were incredible. All in all, how does one choose 6 from this list...

First of all, I'd love it if more people did their own lists. Mine is by no means better than anyone else's, and the reason I made it was to get the conversation started and bring more visibility and interest to the next generation.I had a long struggle between Killian Zündel and Clemens Poschmann for the +1 spot in the 2001 class. I thought for about 15 minutes and eventually went with Poschmann but Zündel also has a very strong case. Pfeffer offensively is strong but lacks defensively and is extremely small...has time to grow however.
Hochegger scored the most points in a peewee tournament in 2014 so there was much excitement at the time. However, at the time I remember telling myself "(Adem) Kandemir will be much better" and I was correct. Hochegger actually began the U16 season playing on the U16 team, while Kandemir played with the U15 team. Hochegger played a fourth line left wing role next to Tim Harnisch and did fairly poorly, such that Harnisch also looked fairly poor. He is very small (160 cm), he lacks reach and cannot control possession through contact. His puckhandling and skating skills are also not near those of Baumgartner, Harnisch, Rossi. Later in the season Kandemir was promoted to the U16 team and Hochegger was dropped to the U15 team and actually still struggled a little at that level. Kandemir meanwhile as I foresaw was promoted to the U16 team, and scored quite a few points from the second-line with Tim Harnisch.
Haha, I genuinely would love to see where you all would rank Lanzinger. He has definitely been a dominant player at times. A few points for me, last year playing in the 6 nations tournament both he and Baumgartner were underage (Lanzinger is 2.5 months older), but Baumgartner managed to score quite a few points and Lanzinger got but one assist in the tournament. Then coming into this season he began having unexplained headaches which kept him out for most of the season, and I don't believe this is his first injury. Another point was size, which is also a question mark for Baumgartner, who began the year at 1st on my list before Payr passed him. I tend to like bigger players and try to avoid the Philipp Haas or Julian Klockl's. However, I have struck out going with big players before, such as Benjamin Trink.

I've done research on replacements for Ratushny in case he walks, especially after the Lausanne offer. Bengt Ake Gustaffsson is definitely the strongest candidate, though from my research, the candidate at the top of my wishlist is Darby Hendrickson.
In a nutshell: 543 career NHL games in which he scored 135 points, represented the United States in the WC 6 times for 38 games in which he scored 13 points. Had 2 points for the USA in the 1994 Olympics where he played in 8 games. 6 year assistant coach of the Minnesota Wild. Minnesota head coach Mike Yeo was fired in the middle of this past season. None of his assistants are expected to have their contracts renewed.

Retired from professional Hockey in Salzburg. 2 year coach for Austro-crack Thomas Vanek in Minnesota. Wife wants to visit Salzburg again

After the "Crowns" Mediaconference today, I see no reasons that there will be a swedish KHL-Team. At least not this year, as annouced.
What did you get out of the media conference? I heard a different conclusion.I guess for the people who have no clue what we're talking about. There have been works to get a Swedish team in the KHL. It's name would be "Crowns", it would have no home stadium in the year of it's inception, it's budget would range from 40 million Krona to 100 million dollars. The whole thing smells very fishy and unpleasant and I don't like it however that is just my opinion.
According to what I heard of the press release today, the main statements were (1) that they have secured funding, and any lack in funding would be finished with Russian funding. (2) They're waiting for approval from the Russian federation. Two other points however, the Swedish federation is trying to negotiate with the Russian federation to block the application, also, rumors that the IIHF will intervene to stop the creation of such a club...the whole thing is a real mess in my opinion, but that is again just my opinion.
How this relates to Austria and Bengt Ake Gustaffsson, who would be a great coaching candidate, the Sportbladet and Expressen did a report interviewing Gustaffsson who is currently in Austria. Concerning Crowns he said that he thinks they are serious and can become an actual team, he confirmed they have contacted him with interest and he says he is interested. It is worth noting that a recent pole done by Expressen shows 70% of swedes not wanting a Swedish KHL team.
-
Also linked to the Crowns job I think. I will see before I believe. -
Many Vorarlbergplayers played in Dornbirn/Rheintal/Feldkirch before they get offerts from good Switzerland Teams!
HC Davos
Payer,Rautter,Pilgrarand for next Saison Kandemir
Kortin move from Feldkirch to DavosGCK/ZAC
Marco Rossi next Saison ZSC Novizen Elite!Rihrer from Feldkirch to Gck!
Rapperswil
Taibel move now to Rapperswil !
Yep, this is why I started the thread, glad to run into someone who knows a thing or two, if not you seem to know a person or two hahaLol I saw the name Taibel on my first go around and figured "ok that has to be a swiss name I've never seen it before"
Also, I believe the Hubert Trstenjak kid is Croatian right? I was talking with a former Croatian hockey journalist about it a few days ago and I mentioned that I had come across Trstenjak, and he found an article of Hubert having played juniors for Medvescak.

Dornbirn and Rheintal work together....
Gions Dad is the Nachwuchschef from Rheintal and in Switzerland you can play with two Lizenz.Taibel,Rohrer are Austrians!
No idea about Savage.
Haha, you seem to know these people. I'll check those two up right now. Also, just a question about names. I look at the roster and see a lot of Austrian names like Koch, Bischofberger, Metzler, Nussbaumer, etc. Are they Austrian or do Austrians share some common last names with swiss people?
-
Both are correct right? I'm just curious now as to why he would play in and spend so much time in another country. I know his dad is a sports manager, is it to do with that?
And on the subject, do you or is anyone aware of the nationality situation with Redmond Savage? Played for Austria in the Canada tournament but I don't see how he could have gotten a passport so quickly. If his birthday is in the last 3 months of the year he will be ineligible to play for the US as well.

Is there a source? In theory it's definitely a possibility, however CHL clubs traditionally don't prefer having a single player fill both one of two overage slots and one of two international spots...also while the AHL is a stretch he is one of the better rookie free agents available to swiss clubs, with his contract ending this season I'm not sure he'd rather play junior another year than sign the dotted line, but perhaps you know him personally or have more information on it. -
@kabidjan14
Gion Coray is from Switzerland (Swiss Passport!)But in Rheintal is a born 2004 Jonas Taibe! He looks pretty good.
Also in GCK is a born 2004 Vinzenz Rohrer! Moskito Top
Is this true? I couldn't research a definitive passport, however I know he played a few seasons in both Dornbirn and Wolfurt, which are cities in Austria right? -
He could still become a good player, nevertheless, Klagenfurt will not have the same problem with him that Dornbirn has with Zwerger...https://twitter.com/TXAut_hockey/status/723072694569177088
When Martin Quendler gives you a RT...>>>
-
Oh, sorry, I've just seen that Zwerger is on the list. Do you know to witch club hel will go? Did he already sign a contract? I'd like to see him in north america or in Dornbirn, nowhere else
He has a Swiss player license, so he will not count against the foreign contingent in Switzerland, like Adis Alagic. His goal right now is to play there, though if an AHL team shows interest I think he might sign there as well...I think his next move will be Switzerland. I think it is sad how few Bulldogs are native to Dornbirn. You have missed Benjamin Lanzinger, who is probably the best player in our U-16 League. I also think that Fabian Sertschnig is better than Benedikt Wohlfahrt, but that is just my opinion.
Here's where I want to learn more so that I can be more accurate with my chart. Benjamin Lanzinger as of right now is the best forward in the U16 league as far as skill is concerned, that is hard to question. I've heard though that's he's struggled with injuries and is injury prone, is that the case? Another potential problem is his size, listed at 172 cm, though one source says he's grown to 175. His dad for certain was not a small man, but he is one of the oldest U16s (turned 16 in January), a full half year older than many of the other U16s, so I'm also curious about how big he really is now because he may have less time to grow than some of the others. As you probably figured, Wohlfahrt is on the list because he's been doing very well in the international circuit, including 6 points in Dresden. Sertschnig outperformed him in the U16 level but Wohlfahrt had the edge in the U18 level as well as a U20 call-up. The 2000 class is by far the deepest class, making the 5 and 6 spots largely a guessing game. Other potential candidates could be Rauter, Peskoller, Rebernig, and even Felix Muller. Rounding out a top 10 would bring into consideration Mayr, Antal, Metzler... -
Maximilian Haselbacher, Goalie, not Forward: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=263773
Wow, sorry my bad haha, that's pretty embarrassing, I corrected it though. He is definitely not a forward.
top5+1osterreischenprospects12016.pngMaybe it is a stupid question but why is Dominic Zwerger not on this list?
He's second behind Mario Huber, but that was a hard decision. He's a much better passer than any of the other 96s and 97s, and does good work along the boards. At the end of the day Huber is just an incredible talent, he's larger, and Zwerger is committed to the NLA next year while Huber is keeping his options open.
Rossi actually played juniors in Dornbirn as well. Vorarlberg in general has been a great hotspot for talent. -

I feel it would be redundant to create a thread for each prospect from SC Rheintal because it is an Austrian pipeline with a long history of players such as Dominic Zwerger, Patrick Obrist, and more recently players like Marco Rossi, Adem Kandemir, Julian Meztler, Emre Kandmir, Kilian Zundel, Travis Pokel and more.
The most recent player to shine from this pipeline is Gion Coray (2003) playing the in Mini A league. He posted a stat line of 20 points in 9 games at the Mini A league and has been a feature on the OEHV U14 National Team.
-
He scored 12 Goals in the Regular Season and 3 more Goals in the Playoffs.
Then that comparison should be taken with a grain of salt, as different players on different teams play a different amount of playoff games and against different strength teams. He's not a bad player, if everyone is available however he probably doesn't make the team. -
)
edit: gm99 war schneller
If I understand what you're trying to say correctly, there are 8 (M.Geier, Komarek, Hofer, Ganahl, Setzinger, Nodl, Welser, Hundertpfund) not 5 and he is tied with Daniel Woger with 12, but that's just semantics.I think a lot of the older generation like Trattnig and Welser were scrapped with Ratushny, Suhonen and Kalt's mission to distance themselves from what happened at the Olympics, which is sad because while what the players did was unfortunate, that Olympics was no doubt the best hockey ever played in an Austrian jersey. Ratushny is a great coach, however, he always seems to be trying to make a point with his selections. People of course like the style of play that is employed under him, however as long as he refuses to play the best players he sets a clear limit on how successful the team can be.

KickertObviously compared to who played yesterday or the day before, not many names in common. Slovenia beat Japan 4-0 today. Ascent really should not be that hard, the Asian countries aren't very good, Italy has mostly stopped using imports and Poland isn't very good. Hungary is not good enough to beat enough teams to stay in the elite division, at least they are the prohibitive favorites for relegation. If they score 3 goals in the entire tournament they should be proud...Two teams will be promoted, and we will probably be one of them as long as we don't bring an INL team. Our A team needs help on defense, but on offense and in goal it's a solid roster looking forward to the Olympic Qualification. My only worry is that Dan Ratushny has shown severe selection bias in his time as NT coach and will try to bring a Bernhard Fechtig, Daniel Ban or some other coaches' favorite to the Olympic-quali. Then things will go downhill very quickly.

Germany and France would have to finish last in their group...not impossible but luckily, Hungary is terrible. -
Time for some encouraging news after a rough day. I feel the structure of our program allows kids to succeed more that kids from other programs. In reality most kids who play in the U18 WC below the elite tier never become professional hockey players. Belarus fans are excited because they think their program is rising after being promoted a single time. But the Belarus league is not strong like the EBEL. By having a strong local league our players have a chance to succeed, improve, gain visibility while receiving reasonable salary and become professional hockey players. In 2010 Belarus played in the elite tier U18 and were hoping that the exposure would give their brightest young stars a chance to play in the next level. Fast forward 6 years, only one of the players on that 23 man roster plays in a well-paying professional hockey league, and he is the only player from that team to be on their national team. The same year Austria's U18, like this year's team, struggled heavily and were relegated to the 3rd tier. At the time the outlook perhaps seemed bleak. Fast forward 6 years however, and the roster consisted of current professional hockey players like Patrick Platzer, Marius Gohringer, Markus Pock, Berhnard Fechtig, Johannes Bischofberger, Clemens Unterweger, Emilio Romig, Alexander Cijan, Patrick Obrist and most notably, Konstantin Komarek. Thus, even though the U18 team struggled this year, and was relegated, I have hope that in the future we will see many of these young men turn into strong professional hockey players because the system and the environment to allow them to succeed exists.
