It has seemed like a given that Thomas Vanek was headed to the UFA market this summer, so hearing there’s even a chance he might consider re-signing with the New York Islanders is news in itself.

If I had to put money on it, I still think Vanek walks -- which means he probably gets traded by the Islanders before the March 5 deadline -- but truth be told, the 30-year-old star winger has enjoyed his time in Long Island and it has given him some pause for thought.

"There’s no question he has liked his teammates, he has liked his coaches, has been impressed with [Isles GM] Garth Snow and management; two weeks into it he realized there was tons of positives that he liked," Vanek’s agent, the veteran Stephen Bartlett, told ESPN.com Tuesday. "Does that mean that we’re ready to sign on the dotted line? No that’s still being discussed in a number of ways. They have to make a decision where he fits into their team structure ... and Thomas has to decide whether at this stage of his career if that’s the best spot for him. But his decision in the end won’t reflect at all in the fact that he’s found way more positives than negatives about his experience on the Island. He’s had nothing but positives to say to me about the way he’s been treated."

It’s not an easy decision. Vanek has never been an unrestricted free agent before. That’s always hard for a player to pass up for the first time in his career.

"There are other decisions that he has to make that are partly financial and partly family-oriented; that’s what he’s working through right now," said Bartlett.

At some point though, Snow needs an answer closer to the March 5 trade deadline.

"I give Garth Snow tremendous credit because even though he gave up a lot to get him, he’s never turned up the screws, he’s given time to let him get to know the Island," said Bartlett. "We understand the business side of things though, if there comes a time where they fall completely out of the playoff picture on top of that if Thomas isn’t ready yet to make that kind of (contract) commitment, we understand there’s a chance that they’ll have to cover their butts and look to see if they can make a deal to recoup some of the assets they gave up. We completely understand that. But no one thinks anything but good things about how the Islanders have treated Thomas."

Aftonbladets Mann in New York meint heute, daß Red Wings ganz heiß auf Thomas Vanek wären. Dazu muß man sagen, daß Bjurman recht gute Kontakte hat, als Dauerakredietierter in Madison.

Ich bin eher etwas fragend. Wo und mit wem sollte er spielen? Einen neuen "Homer" wird er wohl nicht, obwohl er sich gerne im Tornähe aufhält.

aber Detroit war da nicht was bzgl. Caphit. sie müssten einiges hergeben oder?

Ja Montreal, mit Subban an der Blauen kommt er wenigstens zu PPG. Und sollten sie den Sc gewinnen hängen die wohl alle Jerseys des aktuellen Kaders an die Decke, so sehnsüchtig sie auf diesen Titel warten 


Montreal: Pacioretty für Vanek.Wäre für die Isles ein Gewinn.Wenn dann Vanek im Sommer dort unterschreibt.

Eaves kriegt entweder Minimum oder garnix mehr. (-1.2M)
Samuelsson ist schon praktisch weg (-3M)
Quincey wahrscheinlich auch (3.75M)

RFAs stehn natürlich einige an, aber Detroit ist da eh relativ konservativ.

Vanek sollte sich jedenfalls locker ausgehn.

ich meinte eigentlich ein trade zur deadline, da kann er wohl kaum eine Rolle spielen eben wegen Cap Hit.

Achso, naja, die Wings sind nicht dafür bekannt, Starspieler ausschließlich als Rentals zu nehmen. Ohne eine Zusage für eine Verlängerung würden sie wohl kaum den Preis zahlen wollen, den andere Teams vermutlich eher zahlen.

war fast klar, nachdem die Playoffs mittlerweile ziemlich unrealistisch sind mit den Isles. So kann er seinen Wert nochmal erhöhen wenn er in den Playoffs bei einem anderem Team aufzeigt. Wobei ich nicht ausschließen würde das er dann nicht nach Ende der Saison bei den Isles unterschreibt.

Thomas Minnesota bound geistert nicht erst seit gestern rum, aber wozu traden wenn man evtl auch so kriegt? Wer immer zuschlägt tuts nur für nen tiefen PO Run. Alles andere is dumm bei an Spieler der sagt er will auf jedem Fall den Markt testen.

war zu erwarten. bin gespannt ob schon vor olympia der trade kommt. minnesota wird wohl nichts aufgeben wollen für einen spieler, der im sommer wahrscheinlich eh von selber kommt.

nur für mein verständnis: die islanders müssten jetzt für vanek zumindest was besseres bekommen als moulson, sonst war die ganze aktion für die irgendwie "witzlos"?

ich denke, dass bei einem contender auch was besseres als moulson bekommst. wenn auch sonst in form von picks.

was wird da jetzt mitm vanek? ich denke schon, dass die hauptüberlegung ist, wo man realistisch in den nächsten 3 jahren um den titel zumindest mitspielen kann...

die isles sind ja leider von POs wieder so weit entfent, wie nur irgendwas (wäre buffalo leider auch gwesn)
