    hab noch einen schönen artikel über brandy gefunden! er spielt übrigens vorläufig in der zweiten linie! ich glaub mit marc chouinard und andrew brunette, wenn ich den reporter richtig verstanden habe! er hat regelmäßig eiszeit! auch im powerplay, leider noch keinen torschuss und die wild sind 0:1 im rückstand!

    VIENNA, Austria -- Christoph Brandner will become only the second Austrian to play in the NHL when he takes the ice for the Minnesota Wild against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night.

    Before the game, he said he still couldn't believe his luck. "I am glad to have made the cut," he told The Associated Press by telephone from St. Paul. "It was tough, very tough, but I made it', and it's simply wonderful."

    Brandner was drafted by the Wild in 2002 as No. 237, and survived preseason camp to be among the 23 players chosen to play in this season's team.

    While the Austrian top league has some strong players it is not in the same category as the powerhouse Russians, Swedes, Czechs or Slovaks.

    The only other Austrian to make it to the NHL was goalie Reinhard Divis, who has played three games for the St. Louis Blues since being drafted in 2000.

    "Playing in the NHL is all I've ever thought of since I was a little boy," said Brandner, on his way home from another tough training day at the Wild. "I hope it's coming true."

    The 28-year-old, from the Styrian town of Bruck an der Mur in southeastern Austria, hesitated before deciding to step on the ice with the best players in the world.

    He did not want to walk away from the comforts of the German league, with team-subsidized housing and transportation and a tax-free salary equivalent to about $130,000. Moreover, his wife, Silke, was pregnant with the couple's first child.

    "I didn't think I had a really good chance to make the Wild last year," Brandner recalled. "Plus you never know what will happen during the pregnancy, which would have influenced my performance. So I decided to spend another year in Germany."

    His decision to add another season with the Krefeld Pinguine to gain more experience probably helped him make the leap into the NHL. Brandner led the league with 28 goals, carried Krefeld to the championship with 18 points in 14 playoff games and was named Player of the Year. His daughter, Valentina, was born in the spring, and he signed a two-year deal with the Wild in July.

    "I have to look after my family, but I knew I had to take the next step," he said. His deal with Minnesota pays him about what he had earned in Germany.

    Whether it's bench-time or ice-time, Brander was modest ahead of his first possible NHL test Wednesday.

    "Self-confidence is not my biggest strength, so I still can't believe it. There are so many good players in this league, but I'm really happy to be given this chance," he said. "I am a rookie, so I cannot expect to be seen as a leader like in Krefeld.

    "But I will try my best in front of the net and do my share in defense, too -- keeping my error level at the minimum is probably most important," said the forward who has played both left and right wing.

    On the ice, Brandner is a dominant power forward, more of a pure goal-scorer than a playmaker. At 6 feet 4 inches and 224 pounds, he towers over the wing and can skate well for his size.

    But like most European players, he must adapt to the NHL's smaller ice surface, not to mention coach Jacques Lemaire's disciplined system which led the Wild to a Western Conference final berth last season, ousting the favored Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks.

    "It's a completely different hockey. Everything is so much faster, you have no time at all and no space either," said Brandner of his initial experiences on North American rinks.

    Still after two starts at the Olympics for Austria, and five World Championships, the Austrian is hopeful.

    "My whole career has been a constant process of adaptation, from a tiny provincial club to Austria's top team, then to the German league and now the NHL," he said.

    "But I have always been able to cope with my new duties, so I am sure I can do the same here."

    hats das schon einmal gegeben, dass eine mannschaft bei der hymne noch im umkleideraum gesessen ist, wenn nicht, dann habens die wild heute geschafft .....
    leidensgenosse in doppelter hinsicht! liveticker wild-hawks mit espn boxscore und bruins-devils auf premiere, zusammen mit zwei kollegen! das ist ganz schön anstrengend! vor allem wenn man dann nicht ins bett geht, sondern weitersauft! hab keine minute geschlafen und jetzt muß ich auf die uni! das kann was werden! aber die zwei spiele und der brandy waren es wert, auch wenn er sicher noch nicht seine möglichkeiten umgesetzt hat - wie die gesamten wild!
    das mit der hymne hab ich gar nicht mitbekommen, klingt aber megapeinlich!

    es is einfach nur geil *hupf*

    geil wars ja schon als ein 28-jähriger österreicher gedraftet wurde und anfragen aus der nhl erhielt. als österreicher, aus einem eishockey-entwicklungsland (aus nhl-sicht), mit einem alter, in dem viele schon wieder aus der nhl ausscheiden, bzw. schon mindestens 5 jahre nhl-erfahrung haben.

    geil wars schon als man gehört hat, dass ihn die wild unbedingt haben wollen und gute konditionen angeboten haben.
    noch geiler wars, als er dann wirklich rüber ging, und runde um runde im trainingscamp überstanden hat.

    aber jetzt ist er offiziell im active roster der minnesota wild, und er hat sein erstes echtes saisonspiel gespielt, mit voller eiszeit, und jetzt, ja jetzt is es richtig geil *muhahahha*

    er ist dabei, und ich wünsch ihm vor allem dass er sich nicht verletzt, denn dann wird er es schaffen, davon bin ich überzeugt

    hab mir heute mal den sportteil der krone angeschaut, da steht wieder eine doppelseite über brandner drinnen(titel: "0:1 - doch brandner war der Felsblock am eis" :D :biggrin: :laugh: ), die schmeissen mit superlativen um sich, das man glauben kann er hat den stanley-cup gewonnen, na hoffentlich schießt er kein tor, sonst wird die krone zum neuen eishockeymagazin! (was eh besser wär ... :tounge: )

    es wird im artikel behauptet, dass brandner in der top-linie also ersten gespielt hat, das wage ich etwas zu bezweifeln, laut den aufstellungsinfos die im internet verfügbar waren, spielt er in der dritten linie, naja, schlechter wärs ja nicht ...

    also christoph heute wollen wir tore sehen ....
    leider hat er gestern nur mehr in der vierten linie gespiet! aber immerhin haben die wild gewonnen und brandy war bei keinem gegentor am eis!

    der war gut! aber wenn du mir es auch sicher nicht glaubst, aber ich hab tatsächlich ein kleines nickerchen gemacht, bis mich meine mitstudentin geweckt hat (o-ton: "hey, schnarch nicht so laut")!!! mann die frau hat keine ahnung von hockey!
    Minnesota schafft ersten Saisonsieg

    Die Minnesota Wild, der neue Klub des Ex-Krefelders und DEL-Champions Christoph Brandner, konnten einen 1:3-Rückstand gegen die New York Rangers noch in einen 5:3-Sieg umdrehen. Filip Kuba, Matt Johnson, Brad Bombardier und Alexandre Daigle schafften die Wende und damit den ersten Saisonsieg für Minnesota.
    brandy hat gerade sein erste nhl-tor für die wild geschossen!!!! ich freu mich ja so!

    Super Christoph um am Donnerstag gibt es das nächste Tor gegen die Colorado Avalanche ! Wird schwer aber unser Alpenbomber schaft das !!!
