i asked kings fans on their forum how they remember derek bekar (he played 6 games for the kings and 2 seasons for monarchs)...here are their answers:
I remember him as a good skating energy guy that really couldn't do much at the NHL level.
His brother actually posted here a few times. He's a typical "filler"... nice guy... but that's about it.
I remember him playing in pre-season games, but that's about it. Nothing special...
put it this way... Derek Bekar was a player you HOPE Dustin Brown doesn't end up changing his name to.
He made the Kings out of camp that year. Was a tall LW but didn't show much in those 6 games. Didn't seem fast, or create any offense. They sent him down, and brought up Armstrong, and the rest is history.
Derek played in the home opener in 2002, the night that they retired Wayne Gretzky's #99. I think his mom bought Dereks pre-game #99 sweater in the silent auction at the game. I still have the line-up card from that game.
