    Gibt es für morgen Abend gegen Japan noch Tickets? Letzte Woche hiess es, dass dieses Match ausverkauft ist. Weiss jemand was Genaueres? Würde ein interessantes Match werden. Wenn die Slowenen gewinnen sind sie in der Worldgroup!

    Razingar & Kopitar scheinen heute ja groß aufgespielt zu haben...

    There are neighborhoods in Toronto that have easily over 100 registered hockey players. The two-million nation of Slovenia has just about that. But today, that number is irrelevant. Slovenia is promoted to the 2008 IIHF World Championship in Canada after winning its fourth consecutive game at the Division I World Championship at home in Ljubljana.

    Slovenia defeated Japan 7-1 with superstar Anze Kopitar recording four assists, giving the Los Angeles King one goal and eleven assists for twelve points in four games. The capacity crowd (5.000) fans at the Hala Tivoli in Ljubljana was singing and jumping as the clock wound down, celebrating another against-all-odds participation of their national team among the Top-16 hockey nations in the world. Even the VIPs and the politicians went crazy a little bit.

    The remaining game against Lithuania on Saturday will not have any bearing on the final standing, as neither Lithuania nor Hungary can catch the home favorites. Slovenia has been in the elite division four times (2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006) with 13th as the best position in 2002 and 2005. The team was relegated last year in Riga, Latvia after failing to hold on to a 3-0-lead in the decisive relegation game against Italy.

    There were no failures in the decisive game in Ljubljana. Slovenia took the lead after 6.34 when defenseman Uros Vidmar banged in a rebound after constant pressure from the home team. Three goals were scored within 1.16 late in the period. Anze Terlikar made it 2-0 deflecting a pass from Jaka Avgustincic, Takahito Suzuki got one back for Japan 50 seconds later, but Anze Kopitar made sure that the fans didn�t have to get anxious.

    The 19-year old jumped on a two-on-one break and the pass to Tomaz Razingar was meant to be one-timed, 3-1. Kopitar also initiated the play behind the Japanese goal that led to the fourth goal 4.36 into the second period. He fed Razingar who slid it out in front for Milan Hafner who put the puck behind Naoya Kikuchi. Kopitar also had two assists in the last period, both power-play goals. The first by Razingar, his fifth of the championship, the second by Mitja Sotlar. And if the celebrations in the capital Ljubljana haven't ended, they are still going on.
