Bruckler Named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
MADISON, Wis. - Badger rookie goaltender Bernd Bruckler (Graz, Austria), has been named this week's Western Collegeiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Defensive Player of the Week for his stellar play in the Badgers' three-point weekend against third-ranked St. Cloud State. Bruckler replaced Scott Kabotoff (injury) at the 14:39 mark of the first period last Friday night, entering a scoreless game. He proceeded to stop 25 of 27 shots he faced in the 2-2 overtime tie against the country's second-best offensive squad.
On Saturday, Bruckler got the starting nod for the third time this season at the Kohl Center and held the Huskies to just one goal in earning a 4-1 win and stopped 32 of 33 Husky shots on goal. Again, the Huskies were blanked on the power play and ended the weekend 0-9 on the man advantage. On the weekend, Bruckler stopped 57 of 60 SCSU shots for a .950 save percentage.
Bruckler, a 6-1, 180-pound, rookie is a draft choice of the Philadelphia Flyers. He is 3-4-1 iwth a 2.40 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage in over 500 minutes of action this year to date.
So far this campaign, Bruckler is 3-0-1 on home ice with a 0.99 goals-against average and a .970 save percentage.
The Badgers take on the French Olympic Team in an exhibition game on Tuesday night before returning to WCHA play on Friday and Saturday night against Alaska Anchorage.
