I have officially decided to retire from the greatest game I’ve ever played. I will miss it every day, but I’m grateful for everything it has given me in my life. I would like to thank all of my coaches, teammates, and fans I had the pleasure playing with, or for, along the way. I would always like to thank my parents and my wife for all of their sacrifices and endless support of me, allowing me to live out my dream.
The last season was the perfect way to end my career. Unfortunately it came at a cost. I played the last part of the regular season and playoffs with a pretty severe concussion. I tried to convince myself I was healthy enough to play and that their wouldn’t be consequences. The team doctors and owner didn’t empathize with my symptoms and what I was going through. They forced pills on me and told me it would be ok. I even missed two games in the playoffs, because symptoms were so severe. The Gm, Dieter Knoll of @hcbfoxes, was furious and did not understand why I could not play. He actually refused to pay me the extra bonuses the team earned in the playoffs, because he felt that a concussion is not a reason to miss a game. The @erstebankeishockeyliga has been trying to convince the Gm to do what is right and pay me what I earned. Regardless of the money, the symptoms are still lingering, and treatment is very expensive. The Gm has not offered any help financially for the medical bills, and has dodged every phone call and email of mine.
I will always cherish my time in Bolzano and I thank my teammates, coaches, and fans for helping me battle through until the end. I just hope that someday these symptoms will go away, and I really hope this circumstance never happens to anyone else. My advice to anyone going over seas is to really do your home work before choosing where you play. Good luck to all of my former teammates as you start a new season. Austin

Selber wollte er in Ibk Zeiten immer mit einem Legio ein Verteidiger Paar bilden bzw. hat sich geweigert mit jungen Einheimischen zusammen zu spielen. Und gerade der angenehmste in der Kabine war er auch nicht.
