    Nach einem Jahr in der ET gibt es nicht mehr genug geld in Vålerenga um weiter zu machen. Die 2-3 wochen mit der Europa Trophy sind teurer als die ganze saison in Norwegen.

    Am interessantesten ist vielleicht: " tillegg til reiseutgiftene er klubbene tvunget til å kjøpe seg inn i det som er planlagt å bli en Europa-liga på linje med NHL og KHL om noen år.

    Nicht nur die reisekosten waren zu teuer, als Klub musste man sich auch in die "ET-firma" einkaufen, damit man in einer Europaliga mitspielen darf. Das bedeutet, dass eine Europaliga ohne norwegische vereine gespielt wird.

    Norway - Austria. Possibly the most boring match in the WC for the rest of the world. Surely up there with classics like France - Belarus.

    But of course for the 2 nations it is a a big match. Pre tournament i would have said the match was 65-35. Then as the injuries/withdrawals came in on the top players of Norway i was heading for a 50/50. After the 2 first matches im back to 65-35. And if you include the draw it is probably 75-80% chance for Norway to avoid the relegationgroup.

    The sport of icehockey is pretty similar in the 2 countries. In both nations football is clearly number one and has a strong skisport culture in the winter. Handball is big in norway, while volleyball and basket both are decent sports in Austria. And in both nations there is a forum for the hockey fans.     It is the same. The icehockey nations are very similiar. Both struggling with the same challenges, thinking that media hate their sport and clubs that have been struggling with economy over the last 20-30 years.

    But today it will not be decided by the good north american players in Salzburg or Wien. It will not even be Vanek or Grabner. Not even Zuccarello or Thoresen. It will be the mentality to the game. Norway will go out there and try to win. Austria will go out there and try to avoid losing. For some reason i had faith in Bill Gilligan as coach of the national team in Austria, but looking at how his players both in Austria and Graz 99ers freeze up when it matters the most i am starting to lose faith. 2 wins and 8 losses the last 2 years in the playoffs is really bad for a team that actually won the regular season in 09-10 season.

    In Norway Roy Johansen was very unpopular for a long time, but with good results his status has improved. He is certainly not the most exciting coach you will ever find, but he has guided Norway to a safe place in the top group several years in a row now, and also olympic success. Even with the defensive injuries Norway are having this year they look pretty decent organized. Should be enough to keep out the toothless Austrian forwards anyway. The only player who has scored so far in the WC will not play due to injury.

    Im guessing 3-1 for Norway. No one deserves to play relegation hockey after beating Sweden!

    Ich war schon in Wien und bin erst am Samstag nach Schweden zurückgekehrt. Nächste Woche komme ich wieder für ein paar Tage. Auch, weil ich mir das Viertelfinale in Bratislava anschauen möchte.

    Nehmen Sie schwedische Spieler mit nach Wien?
    Es gibt ein paar gute Schweden, die in Wien spielen wollen. Aber wir haben keinen Stress. Wir warten noch ein paar Wochen.

    Das Ziel für den schwedischen Meistertrainer kann in auch in Wien nur der Titel sein ...
    Klar. Egal, wo du bist. Wenn du in der obersten Liga spielst, ist es immer so, dass du den ersten Platz erreichen willst.

    In Norwegen gibt es 2 Hockeygymnasiums, die beiden produsieren viele spieler jedes Jahr, die später in der GET-liga oder sogar in Schweden spielen. Es gibt auch andere Schulen mit zusammenarbeit mit hockeycoaches. Das ist in alter 16-19 Jahr, wo man Matura machen kann über 4 Jahre, während normale Leute nur 3 Jahre brauchen. Solche studiums gibt es auch für Fussball, ski, handball und viele andere sportarten. Natürlich ist es ein Vorteil die beste 16-20 jährigen zusammenzubringen, aber ich glaubte das war Red Bulls job in Österreich.........................

    Coldplayer: Ja, ich glaube du hast recht. Norweger haben ein bisschen offensiver Haltung als österreicher im Sport.

    Aber; so viel hat sich wirkclih nicht für Österreich geendert. Mit 3 punkte gegen Norwegen, ist Norwegen in der Relegationsgruppe.

    It is very hard to understand why Norway the last 10 years have produced better results than Austria on national team level. The norwegian top league (GET league) is certainly nowhere near EBEL level. We have some more players than Austria in Sweden, while Austria have more players on top level (KHL and NHL).

    Some years ago the norwegian federation decided to make a max 10 foreign players per team rule. Next year to 9, then 8 and 7 and so on. On 7 it stopped, the teams realized that lower than 7 would put the level of the league too low. This means that a line up with Hauser-Bjornlie-Bouchard-Larose-Gratton-Fortier is very rare to see in Norway. Now this is a fantasy line up, but when i see visiting teams coming to Wien they very often have 4-5-6 foreignerns in starting line up...this is very entertaining, but doesnt help austrian icehockey one single bit in any way. There are quite simply too few austrian players in the EBEL that are important players for the teams.

    Apart from this, there is also something different in the atmosphere in the team. Austria always give me a "we have lost before the match" before it even starts attitude. Maybe im wrong, but something is missing. Of course Norway very often lose too, but there is always a hope that Norway can pull of a shock. And today we did. Against our "sweet brothers" in east. This match was going to be the revenge for all the humiliation in Oslo skiing World Championship...and we beat them! Unless we get relegated this will be one of the sweetest nights in Norwegian icehockey history :)
