nach einem spiel pause kehrt michael grabner wieder in die spokane-line-up zurück. beim 4:1-sieg gegen chilliwack kann er einen treffer vorbereiten und damit seinen 28ten scorerpunkt (19 tore, 9 assists) im 28ten spiel erzielen.
I went to the Chiefs game tonight against Chilliwack and finally got a chance to see Grabner play. Here are my observations:
Grabner was pretty much invisible the whole night. He spent the majority of the game at right wing and spent time playing the right point on the PP. On the PP, Grabner seemed more inclined to set his teammates in front of the net rather than fire shots towards the net.
During the first two periods, Grabner shot high all night long. Only in the 3rd period did his shots started hitting the net. There was one instance where Grabner showed his speed by jumping at a loose puck then firing a slapper on net. Beyond that, Grabner pretty did absolutely nothing.
Granted, the game for the most part, appears to be two mediocre teams playing each other. The more intense the game got, the more sloppy things got. Grabner pretty much floated around at all ends of the ice. On the defensive end, he seemed inclined to let his defense do the work. At one time, the other team's player actually skated around Grabner while Grabner was merely trying to float into position for a breakout pass. He didn't even bother sticking out his stick to pokecheck the guy. On offense, it was the same story. Grabner hung around seemingly looking for an opportunity to pounce on a puck and put it home. He pretty much stayed out on the perimeter the whole game. There was virtually no puck carrying. No urgency. No using of speed to create space.
Grabner registered an assist in that game, but lets just say that he contributed little to the goal he assisted on. All in all, I'm very disappointed by his performance tonight. Perhaps he's still feeling the effects of the injury that kept him out for quite a few games? I will likely attend a few more Chiefs game in the upcoming months and even years, so I expect there to be future installments of the Grabner Report.
