Steel hat nie hinten ausgeholfen.
Auch der Teil mit Lundkvist ist Blödsinn. DeBoer vertraut ihm einfach nicht in der Defensive.
Dann wars jemand anderes. Muss ich schaun ob ichs nochmal finde.
Bzgl. Lundkvist gabs aber jedenfalls Interviews in die von mir angesprochenen Richtung, was aber in Summe nix Andres heißt, dass er ihm nicht wirklich vertraut.
The decision to bench Lundkvist wasn’t because of one bad performance in Calgary, nor was it one gaffe in that game in which Lundkvist dangerously sent the puck at his own net. Lundkvist was already on thin ice, as evidenced by DeBoer’s comments at morning skate in Calgary when he was asked about Lundkvist.
“I think one, he’s taken some minor penalties here lately,” DeBoer said. “I think he’s got three in the last two games defending. In tight games, it’s one thing if you’re running people over and taking penalties. It’s another thing if you’re taking minor penalties defending.”
After the Stars played 10 games this season, DeBoer was asked how he evaluated Lundkvist’s game, which looked like it had taken some meaningful strides from last season.
“I think his five-on-five game has been really solid,” DeBoer said on Nov. 6. “There’s been a couple of games where he’s dipped a little bit, but when I look at kind of the 10-game segment, first segment of the season, I think his defending and his five-on-five game has been really solid, which is good.”
There were some potholes, but Lundkvist was largely in good standing with DeBoer because of his body of work. By that line of thinking, Lundkvist’s recent stretch hasn’t helped his cause. The penalties DeBoer mentioned have been a part of it. Over the last week and a half, in the Stars’ four games prior to their 8-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, Lundkvist was tied for the team lead with Jani Hakanpää for penalties taken with three. However, the timing of Lundkvist’s infractions put a brighter spotlight on him. He had two against the Vegas Golden Knights, one late in the second period when the Stars were trailing 1-0 and another midway through the third period with the score 1-1 and the Stars on the power play. Two games later against the Winnipeg Jets, Lundkvist was called for holding midway through the second period in a 0-0 game.
