Kennt jemand die Gegend um Dallas/Houston?

Ok I know that area very well haha. Ironically I've been brainstorming visiting Austria sometime. About Houston and Dallas though, the Texans are probably better than the Cowboys, and the tickets are probably cheaper, but the Cowboys have the best fan culture. The Dallas Stars are obviously in Dallas, they're a good team, great fan culture. The Spurs are the best basketball team, the Rockets are also pretty good, the Mavericks are not as on the radar, they haven't been for a while. Outside of Houston, people are Spurs fans unless they tell you otherwise. College sports is also massive in Texas, even high school sports. Sports in Texas in general are great. The one big hardship with going to Texas is that the public transportation is terrible, I know they have a few subways set up but people don't generally use them, they drive. The drive from Houston to Dallas is about 3 kilometers longer than the drive from Salzburg to Bratislava, and in each city you can expect to take 30 or 40 minutes to get anywhere else in the city because Texas is big. If you have any questions I'll try to help or if I don't know I could try to find out. Texas is a great place, another place I'd recommend though is the west coast with Vancouver and the state of Washington. I love Toronto but more because I associate that with family, that and the east coast is pretty nice but the west coast is also nice and the West coast has a prettier climate.

Victory against Denmark 4-3 :veryhappy: :veryhappy: :veryhappy:
Benjamin Baumgartner and David Maier continue to be the stars of the tournament. The Baumgartner-Wolfharht-Rossi line continues to be very effective and the second line with Huber and Kandemir lacks nothing in potency either. Norway also beat Italy 3-2.

PS. The Germany game picture was fairly ironic if you look at it from the size standpoint, it quite illustrated my earlier point.

I believe the report is that we lot 6-4 to Germany. Tough loss, the boys fought well and managed to score, it's just very difficult to defend when your a few of your bigger defenders like Jaunegg (185cm, 13 EBYSL games) and Peskoller (183cm, 17 EBYSL games) are out. Kail (157cm), Pfeffer (160cm), Piff (161cm) give up 20, even 25 centimeters. Switzerland also took on Italy and beat them 13-1.

Even in defeat however this class continues to show that it is the best Austrian U16 class in recent memory. 6-4 without your 3 and 4 defenders is significantly better than 0-7 last year and 1-5 the year before.

10,000 would be way too much.
I think a lovely little rink for 6,000-6,500 would fit perfectly.

Yeah I just put out 10,000 as an example of something ridiculous. I think the first expansion should be from 4865 to maybe 5100 just as a proof of concept. If they just keep packing the expanded stadium and demand goes through the roof then discussions could definitely be had for a 6000, 6500 seat arena.

If I understand correctly the article is saying there will be an expansion of the stadium and added parking?

One thing I was very impressed by was that during the Znojmo series was that each of the three Linz games was sold out to max capacity (4865), that's a lot of fans. Now, Linz wasn't the top or one of the top EBEL teams in attendance last year, however, if games could be attended regularly in such numbers as the 3 games in that playoff series were then that would be very impressive. Bringing back Brian Lebler could also increase attendance and fan enthusiasm. Are they ready for a 10,000 seat stadium? Obviously not but I think the pieces are moving in the right direction. If there is a moderate expansion and additional parking to accommodate the new seats, I think that's the right idea.

This has been in the works for a while. Latvia will be without Darzins, Kulda, Bartulis and a few other key players so Latvia will be the favorite to be relegated. I will be very happy if they are relegated, I haven't forgiven them for last year, that was cheap and dirty and it looks like they might pay.

Roster for the U16 tournament in Dresden is out. I'm not sure they're healthy however Lukas Jaunegg and Matteo Peskoller are out, which will hurt in terms of size. A welcome addition is Jakob Wetzelsberger (181 cm) playing in Finland. Even though he struggled this past season it is very important to be developing top youth everywhere and in the local league so that we are not eventually limited to developing top youth in Switzerland. At the forward position Jakob Brunner was a slight surprise, but he does make up for some of the size lost on the defensive end.

Entry list for the U18 National Team is out:
    http://stats.iihf.com/Hydra/547/IHM547000_32E_3_0_AUT.pdf
I'm a little upset to not see Maximilian Haselbacher on this list, but where selections are concerned homerism can always be expected.
A note, not all of these players were invited to camp, so it seems the decision has already been considerably narrowed beyond this 35 man list.

My original thought is that where top-end talent is concerned this is probably the worst roster we've had in a while. Only 7 of 35 players are listed at 180 cm or taller, and while a few have grown since the last official measurement this stat isn't promising. In order to stay in the D1A we'll need a lot of contributions from a few top players. For the forwards, most of the offense will come from Daniel Obersteiner, Samuel Witting, Yannic Pilloni and Fabio Artner. They each are 176, 172, 176, and 172 centimeters, so they'll likely be pushed around by the heaviest teams in the tournament. Martin Goritschnig is an interesting prospect because of his size, they'll also need a lot of contributions from Kele Steffler. Marcel Zitz, Dennis Sticha and Julian Pusnik stand to gain a lot from strong performances as well. The rest of the names on the list are expected, but not exceptionally intriguing, although there are some good names to watch for next year on there like Benjamin Lanzinger and Alexander Maxa.

I don't think Cuma has been naturalized, he's had double citizenship (Canadian/Austrian) since birth on account of his mother being Austrian. Same situation as Steven Strong, in fact, who definitely is not eligible yet to play for Team Austria.

Oh I see, my bad, Strong was born in Austria (moved at 4 1/2) but if the people consider Cuma Austrian then he is an option, at this point still not a good option though...probably better than Peter but...I wouldn't mind seeing him honestly it's the D1A championship it's not as if one of the other teams could beat our B-team.

Update: Just checked his profile and he played on the Canada U18 team so he would have to play 4 season.

Soweit ich weiß, muss er mindestens zwei (volle) Saisonen in Österreich gespielt haben, um fürs Nationalteam spielberechtigt zu sein und letztes Jahr in Graz war er glaube ich nicht von Anfang an dabei?

He is probably eligible to play but there's not need to play a naturalized player, and he isn't all that good either. Without Ulmer the defensive lines should look something like this
    Heinrich - Pallestrang
    Altmann - Iberer
    Schumnig - Brunner
    Bacher - Unterweger
and if we need someone else Viveiros or Lembacher. I still think Zorec can play, it's easy to look down on his league but the France team that beat us last year had 3 players from Mestis and Latvia and Slovenia had players from the NLB which is even lower quality. Cuma isn't great as a puck-moving defenseman and that's what we've needed for some time. The point being there is no real need for either Peter or Cuma, Peter is just here because of "legacy" and Cuma is better but I don't think naturalizing players is an Austrian thing anymore. If the player was born in Austria or raised in Austria and played at the youth levels they might get naturalized otherwise someone like John Hughes for example would get naturalized.

Ok so the initial WM U18 Training Camp roster has not been released yet on IIHF however I have different outlets which indicate the presence and absence of some players.
Starting off with the players we thought would be there and are there:
Kele Steffler, Verteidiger, No surprises here, I've been writing a lot about him for the past month.
Jean Singer, Verteidiger, Has been called up to all 4 of the U18 events
Paul Sztatecsny, Verteidiger, a Red Bull Salzburg Farm Team player
Jan Bluml, Verteidiger, like Singer has played in all the U18 events leading up to now
Simon Wolf, Verteidiger, IF Troja Ljungby player like another player on our U18 team last year, some will remember Christof Kromp?
Marcel Zitz, Sturmer, another mainstay at U18 events, probably the best player from a prospect perspective on the roster
And then players we thought might be there and are not:
Patrick Stuckler, Verteidiger, played in a few U18 events and even scored a goal in a friendly game, has not been able to establish himself at the EBYSL level however and for this reason will not be missing any school for the national team
Niklas Bretschneider, Sturmer, the highest scoring U18 Austrian in the EBYSL behind Daniel Obersteiner, a little small and his 2015-16 campaign was eventually not enough to earn him a roster spot, had premiered in a few U17 events
Rene Trothan, Sturmer, a real surprise to not even make the U18 camp after being invited to prior U18 events, ended the season poorly, finishing just behind Bretschneider in scoring, and only slightly bigger

Once the official training camp roster comes out I will post that but for now this is all I have.

Peter was a promising defenseman in his junior years. He's been getting call-ups since, even though he hasn't really done anything to show he deserves them. He can stay at home on defense, but unless he improved a lot I was hoping he wouldn't be on the team this year.

Ratushny sseemingly has personal feuds with Unterweger and also Obrist. Bischofberger plays in the league below Obrist and isn't very good. It's good to see Nodl here. This is a training camp roster though, I wonder why he doesn't just call up 12 defensemen and 20 forwards and let them go by cut rounds.
