    My thaughts on this are:
Manny Geier has shown some nice chemistry with Koch last season and i suppose the coach wants to complement them with someone who has a nose for the net.
I dont see Ganahl and Lundmark complement each other very much as both are sniper type players with a healthy bit of selfishness to their game.
Hurtubise on the other hand would allow Lundmark to move to the wing where he could benefit from more creative freedom and S.Geier could round out that line grit-wise.
For the third line i expect Bischofberger to be alongside Hundertpfund, who i also see at center because of his strong two way game. Also Ganahl would fit in nicely here since Hundi definetly lacks some when it comes to finishing.
I dont see anyone of the younger group to crack the top9, probably only in case of injuries and if no further player to be signed.
Also i find no reason for your sarcasm towards these posted line combos, ofc feel free to swap the first two units if it makes you feel better, and note that it only was the second on ice unit so nothing is carved in stone yet and Ganahl could also end up on the "first line" alsongside lundmark and an additional signing.

Sarcasm yes, but not the vociferous sort, and I have a hard time reading it that way. If you're offended by what you perceived to be angry sarcasm I'm sorry. Only when I'm really upset do i drop the teasing and say flatly "this is a terrible coach" or something to that effect. I also didn't ascertain you really liking those lines but you did and you had an explanation so as I said above experimentation is necessary. Would you say Ganahl doesn't have a nose for the net however?

No Vanek, was probably to be expected. Roster is very predictable in a good way, all the best guys without Vanek. I'm very pleased to see Bernd Wolf on (what I think is) the practice squad. He deserves to have his name on that list.

I haven't seen Hurtubise play since he's a new import he's listed as C/RW on EP. Regardless, experimentation is necessary, it just looked weird on paper in the moment.

    Pance-Koch-M?Geier
    Lundmark-Hurtubise-S?Geier
    Kreuzer-Pfundi-Ganahl
    Kurath/-Kurtl-Brucker/Richter?
aber immer mal mit wechselnden Flügeln und etlichen Jungen.

It's true I'm not the most familiar with the KAC system so perhaps someone can explain to me but this depth chart is extremely confusing...

Manny Geier on the first line makes sense. Thomas Koch on the first line makes less sense. Ziga Pance, albeit he's a shiny new toy but putting Ziga Pance on the first line, is there a rule saying you can't have any one line stronger than the other two? Statistically Lundmark should be on the first line he's on the second line, working with that for now. Hurtubise is also second line, and he is a line 2/3 import so that makes sense. Stefan Geier...is the goal to ensure that Jamie Lundmark not score too many points? Then the third line has Ganahl, who statistically deserves to be on the first line, and Hundertpfund, who is at least better than S.Geier, and Philipp Kreuzer on the third line is in desperate need of an upgrade. This makes more sense to me.
    Ganahl - Lundmark - M.Geier
    Pance - Koch - Hurtubise
    S.Geier - Hundi - ????
I leave the question marks because I don't think at least yet that Kreuzer is ready to be in a top 3 line. I've always appreciated KAC's noble attempts to keep the number of imports as low as possible but I do think another forward import is in the works. At least for now I don't know if any of the youngsters has done enough to earn a top 3 line spot. I really hope the next import is a really good one! A top line forward hopefully.

Ok I'm just here to confirm some transfers puck2020 graciously let us in on.
    Jannik Frowis - HC Lugano
    Mica Moosmann - HC Lugano
    Adem Kandemir - HC Davos
    Marvin Kortin - HC Davos
I'll be confirming more transfers as I go along and especially when rosters are published. A few names you've heard, a few you expect and maybe even one you haven't heard before, all coming up soon hopefully.

Here's a nice little video that's going around about SC Rheintal, more of a hype video than informational but at least entertaining:

First roster for the U18s is out as well. First off I must say I'm very pleased with the promotion of Andreas Brucker to the U18 head coaching position. He is a very talented coach and I've felt he was one of the fastest rising Austrian coaches for a while now. Also, Dieter Werfring had to go, which was something I don't think Bernd Freimuller quite agreed on but this Werfring's teams were tactically incompetent, his roster selections would dubious at best, his line pairings were never adjusted according to matchups or chemistry, and his line changes were frenetic more often than not, culminating in consistent failure to allow players to produce to their best potential, even against D1B competition.

I'm curious as to what is going on with Benjamin Lanzinger. Is he still injured? Has he fallen out of favor with the coaching staff? I'm very high on him, and I want to be able to get more viewings of him that are not from long ago. Otherwise I am very pleased with the selection of players for this upcoming camp. On defense there are the common sense selections, Wurschl, Vonbun, and Schreier, and then some common sense additions in Payr and Maier. There's a little bit of a suprirse with Alexander Frandl, I'll be curious to see him in action, but the biggest and best surprise is seeing Matteo Peskoller on the list. He's a big strong kid, built like an American football player who played good time with the EBYSL team last year but needs to cut down on silly mistakes. A surprise omission is Peter Pauli Sivec, but I also felt that he was not good enough for the selection. I honestly had no idea what they originally saw in him, the one thing he did with great consistency was turning the puck over. On offense Artner, Maxa, Maurer, Bretschneider, and Zitz are the common sense selections, and Frowis, Baumgartner, Huber, and Rossi (despite being 14) are common sense additions. Watch out for Frowis especially, he's really flown under the radar but it would not surprise me if he played well enough to earn a spot at the U20 championship in December. Surprised and excited to see Rebernig after being left off the 00' team this past summer but he is absolutely deserving of the call, being probably the most physically gifted player on the team. Julian Pusnik is out, which would be a surprise but I am fairly certain he will be back by the time the tournament comes around.

First roster for the U20 team is out, not real surprises. Christof Kromp and Yannic Pilloni were not present, I'm not sure if due to injury or otherwise, definitely not for lack of skill. The best news is related to Kele Steffler. He has put on 8 kg (17.5 pounds) since last season bringing him from 154 pounds to 172 pounds. The extra strength should help immensely and immediately. I really like this team. The top 5 forwards and 3 defenders are as good as any in the division, if not best in division. The top 8 forwards and 5 defenders are adequate. Depth and Goaltending will be the issue this team faces on the road to promotion this season.

At this point I believe one of the factors relating to the lack of announcements about the Olympic Qualification is the impending decision from Thomas Vanek. While it would be understandable for him to decline I think he should be expected to play, and I think it would be a personal disappointment on his part if he did not. Understandably he has the World Cup of Hockey as well but many NHLers have already declared for the Olympic Qualification. Here's the current list.
    Frans Nielsen, Jannik Hansen
    Lars Eller, Frederick Anderson
    Mikkel Bodker, Nicklas Jensen
    Oliver Bjorkstrand, Nikolaj Ehlers
    Philip Larsen, Anze Kopitar
    Tom Kuhnhackl, Christian Ehrhoff
    Tobias Rieder, Andre Martinsen
    Mats Zuccarello, Yohann Auvitu
    Antoine Roussel, Pierre Edouard Bellemare
    Michael Grabner, Michael Raffl

This is shaping up to be a very intense and competitive tournament and I think Thomas Vanek is both necessary and should in some sense feel obliged to participate as well.

I won't be doing a new one until a little bit into the season, after all transfers are finalized and we've seen a bit of the players playing. That said the 01' group is pretty competitive. I have only one change scheduled for the 01' group currently and that's to push Jacob Pfeffer into 5th and Clemens Poschmann out. I have seen some tape of Schadl, I don't think he has competed for the U16 NT however. I have all the previous rosters downloaded and can go check but I believe only Rossi, Kandemir, Harnisch, Pfeffer, and Hochegger have. He also wasn't in the 01' group at the season kickoff event, but I think players chosen for that event were poorly chosen so I wouldn't consider that. Perhaps with a breakout season he will make the list but currently he's probably the 3rd defender in the age group, in a very strong year for forwards.

Pretty interesting transfer season, with some good breaking away from the buying DEL wash-ups trend, guys like Riley Holzapfel and Brett Olson could really go to work and impressed by some work from Graz with Nash and Vance. This shouldn't really shock anyone but I think Salzburg is winning this offseason and as usual Austrian teams significantly outperform non-Austrian teams on transfer paper. We're 3 weeks removed from RFA renewal day and there are still a lot of AHL names on the board. Here are some players I compiled still on the board, from second and third liners to king-makers, reasonable possibilities to far far reaches (competition and salary)

    David Broll
    Anthony Camara
    Alexander Guptill
    Matt Bailey
    Justin Vaive
    Kevin Czuczman

About the big ice, he played in the NCAA for 4 years so he's seen the big ice before.

Does anyone know the nationality or international status of Devin Steffler? Kele Steffler represented Austria this past U18 WJC as a defenseman and is my #1 prospect for AUT98. His brother Devin is listed as American while Kele is listed as Austrian. Are they both dual-citizens? Is Devin's nationality status incorrect? Another Steffler surely wouldn't hurt. Kele came over the Austria after struggling to be competitive in the US leagues, as really is a product of the Austrian system, going from unknown to one of the best U18 players in a year. Devin seems to be doing slightly better in America but he's also swamped under the weight of heavy competition. Would Devin be eligible to play right away or would he need 2 years in Austria being a dual-national?

Es würde mich freuen wenn Benni Baumgartner und Julian Payer eine Chance bekommen für den NHL Draft 2018.
Möchte gerne wissen wie Interessant sind Jahrgänge 1999/00/01 International?

I've looked into the routes on this. For those two players specifically, I'll map the routes. Interestingly, 5 of the last CHL Import Austrians drafted have come from the EBEL/EBYSL system, and only one (Dominic Zwerger) from the Elite Junioren system. For the EBEL/EBYSL kids the path seems fairly simple, they're all at or around PPG in their draft-1 year. Exceptions exist obviously, Mario Huber would have been taken in his draft-1 but there were very serious questions about his character. Felix Maxa was a late-bloomer who struggled in international tournaments and came across as unathletic. Focusing on the draftability of the prospects playing in Switzerland however, the general trend is very similar. Around PPG in the Elite Junioren league in your draft-1 year is enough to warrant CHL attention. This is both true for Dominic Zwerger (17P in 21G) and Tim Bozon (29P in 27G), and Tim was drafted in the 3rd round next year after a good WHL season. Swiss players however have been known to be drafted with far inferior statistics. The basic conclusion is that to be CHL drafted in their draft-1 years the big prospects Frowis, Baumgartner, Payr, all have to at least be playing in the Elite Junioren league and the forwards are expected to be scoring at least at a .6 clip. Among defensemen the criteria is far looser and size is more telling, which Payr has, but he must at least be at the Elite Junioren level and preferably scoring at least a .3 clip. This is to get them their shots at playing in Canada and developing there. Now, to be straight drafted from the Austrian or the Swiss leagues is a different story.

I cannot remember the last time a foreign skater playing in the swiss junior system was NHL drafted. The only name that really comes to mind is Elvis Merzlikins, the Latvian goalie. That being said we can still look into what kind of stats it takes to be NHL drafted from the swiss system. Interestingly most of the swiss players drafted were not drafted from their domestic league, but that aside the player must play at least half his season in a professional league, the NLA or in some cases the NLB, and must have stats if even poor stats.

So for a Jannik Frowis or a Benni Baumgartner or a Julian Payr the route is simple. Play in the Elite Junioren league next year and at least half the season in NLA the year after, or play well enough to be CHL drafted to Canada and perform there. This is obviously a tall task. The beauty of this class for me is that it's a class, not a prospect. Rising out of this class I don't see the next Thomas Vanek, but I see Dominic Zwergers, Mario Hubers, and that's what Austrian hockey needs. One star prospect is a lot of fun to talk about, but one star without a supporting cast is Croatia, or Lithuania. In a few (maybe 8-10) years Marco Rossi may be a star, but he will mean nothing if he is not surrounded by top players like Jannik Frowis, like Benni Baumgartner, like Dominic Zwerger, like Lukas Haudum, and I think it's encouraging to see both in the 96-97 class and the late 99-00-01 class that these classes aren't defined by one class.

They better hire a real next head coach while Alpo does his deal for this fall, I don't even want him coaching in the spring. I like what he's been doing recently what with all the coaching seminars, the youth development camps, I want him to do more of that, it's his job. Understandable for the fast approaching tournament in September but they need to find a real coach soon so that Alpo can focus on his directoral duties.

And haha, it's just another day on the future of the national team, the Suhonen lied and the Suhonen is a savior sides going at it. I just don't like the feeling that Suhonen suddenly has a monopoly on Austrian hockey, during the transition between two presidents he overtakes both the chair of Head Coach and Sports Director. There are a couple reasons this is bad. It should not come to a surprise to you that just like there are people on this thread who have opposite views of Suhonen, there are also people in and around the federation as well as players on each side of the situation. There are people, including players and coaches and staff members, who do not like Suhonen and for him to have so much power without there being an intermediary person like Ratushny in the past could be a real turnoff or divisive point moving forward.

If I understand correctly Suhonen is only the coach for the September tournament right? I've gotten pretty good at reading articles in German but I can't be sure/pick out the details. If only for the Olympic Qualifications tournament it makes sense. Any coach we hire next will have to come in and learn everything in 2 months, which I think all of us who know the NT very intimately can attest isn't enough time.

In other words he is the interim head coach?
