This is a shot in the dark and maybe it already has been tried but what about this.

Example Player: Sebastian Habernig, 19 years old, 6 points in 2 EBYSL games and U20 National Team member, Junior contract. He's way too good for the EBYSL, ready to move to a higher league and play senior level. Vienna's already full though, with Felix Maxa on line 3, Bolterle, Nissner, and Grosslercher on line 4 and Ali Wukovits returning soon.

Perhaps loaning him out to an AlpsHL team for a transfer fee. Maybe set a cap on the transfer fee like (first number in my head) 1000 euros or something, but because the player is a junior he doesn't receive salary so he would still be cheaper than a Senior contract player. The money from junior transfer fees must be pooled and explicitly used to budget the salaries of local players. It's just a thought but raising local player salaries would go a long way towards making the system better, both with contract negotiations, starting salaries, etc.

Asking for a livable wage for a family isn't quite the definition of gambling that I use.

The EBEL is really just buying time for the production to youth to match the skill level of the league. I used to be really against lowering the import level because I don't feel watering down the competition level is the right answer as that limits player mobility, but I'm having second thoughts. I'm watching the current youth very intently, as they're the best in a while. If they can't make it perhaps something does need to be done.

Wukovits can also play left wing, so in my dreams the line looks like Wukovits - Maxa - Ferland
If both could surpass Fischer then the future is extremely bright.

I was the second person to join but I've only checked my yahoo once since so I potentially missed a cutoff or something.

I like KAC and RBS doing it, I think it's a good idea for a farmteam, but for an expressly U20 team, firstly it would cost a lot, and the domestic skaters (I am bound to miss some please forgive) who are U20 and ready for senior hockey would be Baltram, D.Winkler, Maxa, Wachter, Jennes, Wappis, Nissner, Steffler, Birnbaum, Kromp, Nussbaumer maybe Witting, maybe Pusnik, maybe Simon Wolf, maybe Poschmann, perhaps T.Winkler actually, but take off Baltram and Maxa and Kromp because those guys will be primarily EBEL level and the team strength just is not very high. Players who are good enough to have a tremendous impact will already be testing the EBEL, and the league is hoping to be higher competitively than the INL. Using it to help players in the 19-22 range does makes sense to develop players. And then there would be the problems with loans, transfer fees, as opposed to the way KAC and RBS have it they just need to reassign players. Some day if Austria has a whole lot of good domestic talent a U20 team or maybe even a U18 team become options but really aside from the USA the national development teams haven't worked out a whole lot (eg. Russia U18).

I think you should go back and reread the initial quote. I was addressing a very thoughtful and good post about how if Austria got a team in the KHL/MHL system then it would benefit Austria greatly. In context, my argument is that the only way it could benefit Austrian hockey is if Austria bans the introduction of foreign players into the youth level teams. If I'm translating correctly, no one has made a point against that.

I never said that the Red Bull Salzburg Academy is going to invariably not benefit Austrian players. I believe if you throw enough money at something, like Red Bull has, then at least some benefit are inevitable. If I believed there was truly going to be no fruit from the RBHRC program then I have pleaded with important ears for the wrong players. Neither have I said that the expressed purpose of the Academy should be for the development of Austrian players. However, as Riga, Raubichi, Astana, etc have not had imports in the MHL team I think it isn't unreasonable if the KHL/MHL were to enforce some import rules/restrictions and not make exceptions for Salzburg.

As for the academy I think I usually tell people "it's the right idea." I'm a little unsure of the eventual efficacy of it. Losing the program's Sports Director was also a big hit, great guy with a whole lot of very useful connections. I really want it to succeed, I think as far as facilities everything is state of the art, the instruction and equipment is also very good, unrivaled in all of Austria. The exposure could still use work, and other aspects such as RBHRC's regular season I'd prefer a more competitive regular season but the concept visualized by Pierre Page when he conceptualized the Academy is golden.

The Austria U20 AlpsHL team would cost a whole lot of money, it's a good idea and I would like it, however, Austria simply doesn't have enough domestic U20 talent in my opinion to pull it off. If the AlpsHL is as competitive as I hope it will be, the U20 domestic players I can think of who could player senior level hockey don't add up to a 25 man roster, though it'd be interesting to try to put that roster together.

Wer also was werden will, sollte tunlichst deren Ehrgeiz kopieren bis übertreffen.

It's a very high reference mark though. The Germans at RBHRC Salzburg aren't your typical Germans, they're really really good Germans, some of the best from proximate regions. There are 3 U17 National team members, Dennis Lobach, Taro Jentzsch, and an absolute beast named Edwin Schitz, Timo Bakos was on the U16 team last year and you could make the case for Justin Schutz as well, Moritz Tsciersch is on the current U16 team, I think Filip Varejcka could make the case too and Russian-German Denis Miller is a 2018 Draft Prospect. Given the context of exactly how good these kids are you can see why Austrian kids are buried on the depth chart. It's kinda like iff Slovakia and the Czech Republic shared a club for top prospects, Slovakia would struggle some. Despite this there are 4 Austrians who are really doing well fighting in and even standing out among so many good foreign players in Lukas Schreier, Marcel Zitz, Paul Huber, and Max Rebernig. Max needs to avoid injury though. He had a chance to play on the top line but not long into the game he got injured, wasted opportunity for him.

    Zitat von Hockey_Fan_72

Kennst du die Strukturen der RBS Akademie
Weisst du, dass RBS 2 Teams (U18) hat.
    1. U18 Red Bulls Hockey Rookies Cup (spielt Serien im Ausland und besteht hauptsächlich aus Jahrgängen 1999 - 2000)

In my post that you quoted I was giving stats for a Sweden tournament for which no stats can be found online. I think that says I know the system. The Austrian youth are hopelessly buried behind foreign players on the RBHRC U18. The roster lists 11 Austrian skaters, in reality only 8 are with the team. Then their depth chart is crowded with non-Austrians. Offensively speaking only two Austrians get (significant) ice time per game and defensively only one Austrian gets top ice time. The EBJL U18 team firstly is most appropriate for 15 year old players as any EBJL team is, but foreign players dominate the ice time on that team too. Maybe 5 players get significant minutes there. If you add it all up 8 players get significant minutes from 2 U18 and most are on the EBJL team which generally lacks fruits how is that helping anyone?

It's like I said, they're not playing with foreign talent they're sitting behind foreign talent.

And in the current system it is what it is, my comment was that if a move is made to the KHL/MHL system there needs to be significant changes in order for any benefits to be reaped. Riga, Raubichi, Kamenogorsk, Astana, imports in one of those youth teams is unheard of. If Salzburg has an MHL team just like before where Austrian players sit for days behind foreign players how is anyone helped? I'm working as hard as I can to help reap fruits on that frontier but the system set up is extremely inhospitable. It's barely to train top Austrian talent, more to weed out Austrian talent, but the few players who do make it through will be good players because they've had to battle through a mini-EBEL before getting to the real EBEL.

I think this would be a step in the right direction. If the OEHV were a rich club they would probably buy the contract out already. Especially considering Manny Viveiros, the Austro-Canadian whose son Layne is an National Teamer, is now the Dir. of Player Personnel for a WHL team it would be nice to have him on friendly terms with the OEHV again. I know not everyone is frustrated with Alpo, but while he was a good enough hockey development man he was a divisive personality. For a Sports director an in-house option is to promote Roger Bader, he's done fairly well in my estimation and that would not require spending more of the budget. As for a coach, probably the best appropriate NA coach on the market currently is Marty Williamson.

I just want to leave this here because this is what I think of and this is what I hope I'll always think of when I think of Austrian Hockey.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZH9kyoVl58
Head to head, against the #3 team in the world, and for those first 10 minutes being up 2-1, tied 2-2, I mean I'm proud of that. I don't think you can say "well Latvia has KHL players" or "Germany has DEL players." I mean we hung in there against a top 3 team in the world. There are a lot of problems I think. The EBEL is an easy excuse, and also the federation, and even the agent system all the top youth are unrepresented, the scouting system has it's deficiencies as I've found out since getting more exposure to the system but I think it's important not to lose the grand picture. Austrian hockey can be amazing, and really should be able to play with anyone. If a few things are changed, things are improved, and fans we keep believing then anything can happen.

    @Slowenien

Slovenia is a nice story, and they're very good this year because of the golden generation in it's prime, but I think in 4-6 years they're basically irrelevant.

Anyone else feel there's way too much finesse on the team? Too much "skill" or finesse leads to the inability to play through contact. Missing Matthias Trattnig, Matthias Iberer, Andre Lakos type players, only Hundertpfund is a true power forward, though Lebler and T. Raffl have the size to be and sometimes are, and he scored against Latvia. The development system puts heavy emphasis on technical skills and finesse but with no power it took 2 austrians to take the puck away from 1 Latvian, German each time etc.
