I think the underlying assumption is that I don't watch perhaps as much as I should. I probably do need to spend more time on film, there is always room for improvement, room to get better and I'm not at all exempt from that. You're very invested in the current U16 team and that's great, I'd love to hear if you had a player you would like to recommend, so on and so forth. However, I have access to streams and video banks, some of which are public domain but many of which are virtually or genuinely restricted access. I never like revealing my hand as far as what resources I have, but I wouldn't assume just because I don't share your opinion on some players that I haven't seen the players and just asked a spectator for his opinion.

Next will you say Emre Kandemir is better than Pfeffer ;)

Recently and in the past I've received both player and faculty critique about Zundel, or just name dropping him in conversation, so I will definitely consider him more next time. Choosing Nickl was a call I made by myself, more about things I've observed that I like. I like Nickl's physicality, I weigh the fact that he has nice size, is a lot younger and I feel he doesn't really surrender an immense amount of ground on the basics like puck control, he's pretty good skater. Of course Zundel is a great skater. Between now and the end of the season I anticipate events may force me to move Zundel up anyways, but I do think Nickl is a sleeper who if given the chance could be a real revelation.

The others weren't very hard choices. I like Kandemir but he's been struggling, and as far as the developmental timeline is concerned if he doesn't get on track soon he'll have it rough moving forward and even more so with the new Swiss import rules. If Schubert's stats/measurables were inaccurate as has been brought to my attention then sure, Kandemir would claim the sixth spot over Schubert. I have preferred Kandemir to Hochegger every step of the way but people with more power haven't, and Hochegger may get a pretty defined advantage sometime.

Rudisser is pretty good, he actually tried out for a big Swiss club's youth team and got accepted and got an offer. He declined the offer...he's a 16 year old with an early birthday who is still at Rheintal. As far as vs. Harnisch, Harnisch has been selected to a lot more NTs where he has impressed me, and many others, in fact I don't know anyone else who shares your opinion but I'll consider it next time anyways.

Same principle with Beck, whatever career or interest he wishes to pursue is great, however, if one of those is hockey then his decision to continually turn down transplant offers has really made his prospects extremely precarious. I don't want to say it's too late, but he has to move fast to have a shot, and most of the other guys in consideration have given themselves a much higher ceiling to work with.

I had Wimmer on my first two lists and got some criticism for it. The straw that broke the camel's back is of course his move to OHCE and his subsequent mediocrity in their U16 program. He has about one year to become Florian Baltram, good luck to him I'm definitely cheering him on but it's not an easy path.

I'll admit that there's an element of evaluation that has more to do with what I am aware happens behind closed doors rather than what happens on the open ice. However, I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, though you are free to disagree. If I don't consider everything I know about the individual situations of players and just go off of what is on the ice then to some extent I am just burying my head in the sand.

Mario Huber with an assist, 20 points now. He's fallen on hard times as the team has struggled, hopefully he can get going again, he desperately needs a linemate upgrade.

    - A hockey stadium.- Someone who would pay for it.
    - Someone who would be willing to finance a hockey team.
    - People who would actually go to a hockey game

And at least 87 other things that didnt came to my mind.

I asked why hasn't a team been put in St. Polten specifically, not what are the required steps to take to put a hockey team in any city. Before there was the Detroit Olympia there wasn't the Detroit Olympia. Before there were the Detroit Red Wings (Cougars) there weren't Red Wings fans, etc. None of those are different if you're in Toronto, New York, Detroit, or Zell Am See. St. Polten makes a lot more sense for a hockey team than Kapfenberg at least on paper so I'm asking why in the past has it never been brought up in the past. I'm not saying we should all get together and put in a bid for it, what has held it back. It has a population larger than Dornbirn, or places mentioned like Feldkirch and Kapfenberg. It's also farther north and has a hockey youth system in the region. There are some larger corporations in the region. Is it a big football city and everyone rallies around SKN St. Polten? Are the companies other than Leiner too small to invest in a sports club? Are there a lack of rich St. Polten hockey alumni who would be interested in the project?

Kapfenberg, St. Pölten... Das wird ja immer besser. Ich glaub Oberpullendorf hat auch einen Eislaufplatz.

;( I was just asking haha, but if you say so let's start a team in Oberpullendorf ;)

Are there any realistic bids then for a new Austrian team?

What are the complications with putting a team in St. Polten? It seems like a big enough city and it's farther north, there's already a youth system in place.

Ok, see now I can't tell if you're serious haha. That looks like a small town whose population would fit inside an eishalle. Does the Kapfenberg bid not seem serious again?

Before the tournament one of the assistant captains said in an interview the goal was to remain

You get what you seek. Some of the younger kids were angry when they saw that interview. If your aim is just to stay at that level, especially with as much talent as they had then you need to adjust your goals.

Will be interesting to see where the kids go next after the B-WM. It's true that spots for zero-pointers aren't many, but kids aren't being inefficient in using them either. Dario Winkler to his hometown Innsbruck, Christof Wappis, Daniel Wachter to hometown Villach or try Dornbirn or Graz. If everyone is clammoring at the doors of EC Salzburg it's unreasonable to criticize the point system. These kids have had a year of AlpsHL, they've become more acclimated to the senior game, now it's time for them to disperse to places where there are playing time opportunities.

The French scored two of four with 2 men advantage (1st goal was scored 1 second after the first of twp penalties against AUT expired so it is de facto still a PP2 goal). Haven't seen the game but I'm not too inclined attributing this loss to a goaltending problem.AUT didn't manage a PP goal today and only one yesterday but conceded more than enough PP goals. And the penalties taken that gave rise to the French GWG seem like a complete letdown of discipline...
This tournament is a big wasted chance unfortunately.

They were very preventable goals, and the second one was a ridiculous case where Holzer ran out to the edge of his crease to trip Haudum so the french forward could shoot on an empty net. The third was a poor break on a turnover but it was still a skater on goalie situation and the goalie has to win. There's no excuse for giving up 4 goals on 17 shots. You're right, it was absolutely a letdown of discipline, Birnbaum's penalty was extremely stupid and Wachter's was needless. However, the 5v3s weren't a constant barrage of tough shots that Holzer blocked off one after another and finally he succumbed. The french got very few shots off during those 5v3s because of good defending and the both goals scored were scored with Holzer facing the shooter.

In the last two games goalies combined for 30 saves on 40 shots, or a 75% SVS%.

Let that stat settle in. It's almost as if there were no better goalkeepers...

Lukas Haudum showed up. He's been the leader the entire tournament. You can feel it in his play and he's really delivering.

    No one else did.

They boys still control their destiny but they need to win out.

This team is successful in fact because they've played so much at the senior level compared to their peers or years past.

I would not be too harsh on a club like Dornbirn, the youth capable of playing at the senior level choose to line up at Salzburg (better training facilities, coaching, less playing time) instead. HC Innsbruck proves that legios are not a product of discriminate coaches but of elite youth stacking by bigger clubs. My question is will players themselves begin to adjust to that. I would be interested to see if perhaps next year Dario Winkler joins Mario Huber and Philipp Lindner in Innsbruck, that would make Innsbruck a very formidable team.

Kazakhstan should be interesting tomorrow, they are not a good team but the boys can't underestimate them.

Dazzling performance. The boys were too fast for their opponents. Every time a German player got the puck he was greeted by 2 skaters. They gave no room to pass, no room to skate, no room to breathe. Suffocating defense and the few times a German player got through Dominic Divis took care of business. This is getting exciting!

Austrian goal nullified by replay of nothing. Won't save Norway, hockey is a sport where buying the ref doesn't guarantee you the win.

They're awarding an assist to Wappis and Matzka but I believe the assist belongs to Dario Winkler. Regardless, up 4-2 should be game, set, match. Norway bought the ref but when you're significantly worse that doesn't help much. Austria looks like they have 7 men on the ice Norway is just too slow.

Nice. I have't heard from him before. Neither I did about the league he plays in.Is it a league where there are possibilities to start through? Any examples?

    What means goalie-driven?

He is starting most games, but in America many teams try to get every player to play so he doesn't start every game. The league itself is an NAHL/USHL feeder.

The league's goalies are better than the league's forwards so many goalies have relatively good statistics, but even among them he is doing well. He came from Vienna I believe and played in the Junior Caps system before.

Maximilian Haselbacher has a 93% save rate through 7 games in 18U. It's a goalie driven league so that looks better than it is, but still very impressive. 5th in SV% among goalies with more than 5 games. 2nd among 2017 draft-later and 99' or younger.
