Endlich mal ein scoringtechnisches Ausrufezeichen von Marco Kasper. Ihm gelingen beim 6:3 Auswärtssieg bei den Chicago Wolves 1 Tor und 2 Assists.

Vlt ist das der Moment den er gebraucht hat

Schönes Tor.

Ich sehe diese Saison nicht so eng bei ihm, die Verletzung hat sicher sein Sommertraining negativ beeinflusst, die Griffins sind in einem Umbau mit einem neuen Trainer und sehr vielen jungen Spielern (12. jüngstes Team) der AHL.

Es würde mich nicht überraschen, wenn das gesamte Team in den nächsten 2 Monaten zulegt.

Marco Kasper avancierte heute zum 1st Star of the Game. Er erzielte in der OT den 5:4 Treffer, und bereitete das 1:0 vor.

Here’s a sentence that will put a smile on the face of Detroit Red Wings fans: Marco Kasper is heating up.

It wasn’t the fastest transition to the American Hockey League for the 2022 No. 8 pick, starting out with just one point in his first 10 games this season. Understandably, coming from a larger ice sheet and a different style of play over in Sweden, he needed some time to adapt. Since the Christmas break, though, Kasper has found himself on the other end of the ledger. He has 11 points in his last 10 games, and after five points in two games in Manitoba this past weekend, he was rewarded Monday by being named the AHL’s Player of the Week.

That’s a big development for Kasper, and for a Red Wings organization that is counting on him to be a big piece of its future.

“I think mentally there were some high expectations from himself early on, which is great: Guys should have goals, guys should set goals,” Griffins coach Dan Watson told The Athletic this week. “(But) when they don’t attain those, that’s when you get that mental letdown. Where, for him, now he can see how it’s progressing, and what you need to do to have success at the AHL level, versus where he came from.

“It is a different league, obviously the smaller ice (and) everything coming from Europe, it does translate. Things happen a little bit quicker here. So now his thought processes are quicker, his reads are quicker and he’s making the right decisions when he has the puck. All of that equals confidence, especially once you have success by getting the points that he thinks he should have. But it’s not all about points. It’s all about doing things the right way, when he doesn’t have the puck and when he has it.”

Perhaps not by coincidence, the Griffins as a whole have likewise surged over the last month, winning seven of their last 10 games to pull into third place in the AHL’s Central Division.

That made it a good time to check in with Watson, the first-year Griffins coach, to talk about what’s driving Kasper’s surge and the many other Red Wings prospects that make up his team.

I wanted to start with Marco Kasper, who was just named the AHL Player of the Week. What’s he doing differently over the last month and a half?

I think he’s just playing with some more confidence. He’s getting after pucks, he’s playing a little bit more aggressive, playing into bodies, going through hands, creating more opportunities for him to have the puck on his stick. And then we talked about getting pucks to the net in certain situations, especially the last weekend, something we didn’t do early on in games, he was starting to do later in games and got rewarded for it. Just being a little more tenacious, a little more relentless. He’s starting to gain some more confidence when he has the puck.

How much of his offense will come through that: being relentless, tenacious and putting pucks to the net?

That’s got to be his game. He does have really good skill, and those puck skills are still developing, but for him to be effective, he’s got some good mass to his body already at 19 years old, and he’s got to learn to play inside of players, win those body position battles, win those loose puck races, and you do that by going through hands, going through bodies. And he’s starting to learn that. (It was) something he struggled with early on, (and) now he’s starting to get. And once you start to get rewarded by doing those things all the time, now you start to feel good about yourself and now you get some puck luck, and now he’s rolling.

For you guys overall, really since right around Christmas it seems like you’ve hit some kind of stride. What are you noticing that’s led to that?

Just becoming a team. Little bit better behind-the-scenes for sure. Trusting each other, playing together as five-man units — something we’re trying to stress here. But our compete level has gotten better, we’re starting to win more battles overall, and just playing the game the right way. And to me, that means when we don’t have the puck, again we have that relentless mindset, we’re being tenacious. When we do have the puck, we’re managing it. We’re not just turning it over, we’re not just throwing pucks blind to places. We have better support. So again, playing better as a group, tighter, connected, whatever term you want to use, and then just away from the ice, just our guys are becoming a team and (getting) more of that team atmosphere, the structure behind the scenes, that we want.

Wurde auch 2nd Star of the Game. Der Treffer war sein einziger Schuß auf des Gegners Gehäuse.

Und Grand Rapids baut damit die eigene Serie auf 15 Spiele mit mindestens einem Punkt aus, war das erste Spiel zweier Teams die vorher 14 Spiele am Stück gepunktet haben.

cool gemacht, eiskalt verwertet. Es scheint, als ob er warm wird in NA. Bin schon auf sein Trainingscamp im Sommer gespannt.

Wird eh Zeit, dass er seine Schnelligkeit öfter nutzt. Das hat mir in seinem Spiel bis jetzt etwas gefehlt. Er ist ein super Eisläufer, nur im Konter hat er sich oft hinten den Puck geholt, anstatt wie bei dem Tor den schnellen Zug zum Tor zu finden. Gefällt wir wie er sich bis jetzt entwickelt.

Mit einer WM Teilnahme könnte es dieses Jahr knapp werden, denn aktuell liegt man 19 Punkte vor dem 6. platzierten in der Central Division.

Na dann ist ja der WM-Zug nicht zu 100% abgefahren.

Die anderen Teams lassen sich ja auch immer ein paar Kaderplätze frei, um für die Playoff-Spiele noch Verstärkung aus Übersee einfliegen zu können!
