Hi, my hometeam in Norway, Stavanger Oilers, have signed this finn:

I see he has many years behind him in Austrian league. Anyone who can give a clue what to expect from this player?

as far as I remember he was among the better imports initially but the league developped rapidly and imports got better which in the end left him more at the lower end of the quality range. in his time in salzburg I think people were not very convinced by him (I guess he was even sent down to the farmteam in the second league but that could have been the other finn who mostly came together with Niskavaara, don't remember this guy's name anymore).
from what I know of the Norwegian leage (more a development league with lower profile imports mostly) he sure could still be decent.

Thanks. It is a bit weird that the norwegian national team can be better than the austrian league, cause i think you are right..the league is better in Austria. Mainly the imports in Norway is from Sweden and Finland, while in Austria you are very focused on the Americans. Last year Jonathan Zion played in Stavanger, he didnt set the league on fire but he was among the best defenders in the league.

domestic league and national team are not necessarily in line with each other. due to the number and good average quality of the imports (and the fact that the league draws from 3 or even 4 countries) EBEL is a good competition. better than the leagues of other countries that have a similar or better national teams.
but let's not talk about Team AUT, that's too annoying mostly because our team and its surroundings have a pretty poor record and a recent history of underachieving... ;(

sorry Rey, i think you meant Kaipainen, who played in the farmteam in Salzburg´s 1st "bundesliga" season.
I liked the way he played, very offensive defender, but he made several mistakes, too.
good shot, good in PP, but sometimes terrible passes!

    have fun with him! ;)
