Sehr gute Vorstellung von Patrick bei der WM. Jetzt geht's in der USHL weiter. Laut Aussage seines gerade erst aus Nordamerika zurückgekehrten Vaters wird Patrick bei Sioux Falls den Rest der Saison als Defender eingesetzt. Trainer Hartzell ist soweit sehr zufrieden mit dem jungen Wiener, hat ihn 'unter Beobachtung' zur WM freigegeben und wird mit dem Erfolg seines Schützlings dort ebenfalls zufrieden sein könnnen. Natürlich fehlen Patrick für den Draft derzeit ein wenig die Punkte, dennoch muss man die Chance auf einen zukünftigen Platz in der besten Liga der Welt noch nicht abschreiben, zumal für Verteidiger nicht unbedingt die Scorerpunkte entscheiden.

Wenn ich's richtig verstanden habe (werde mich gerne nochmals mit Papa Divjak drüber unterhalten), zeigte Patrick schon längere Zeit ein sehr gutes Abwehrverhalten und agierte möglicherweise zuletzt bereits als Defender. Er hat die Saison aber sicher als Forward begonnen und soll jetzt rein defensiv weitereingesetzt werden. Die wichtigste Meldung ist für mich aber, dass Hartzell zufrieden mit dem Jungen ist - und da bereits Vanek und Nödl von Sioux Falls durchstarten konnten, gibt es auch die entsprechenden Connections bzw. Aufmerksamkeit bezüglich der 'Austrian Boys'. Dennoch ist's natürlich nicht einfach für Patrick und wir werden abwarten müssen, ob er sich tatsächlich durchsetzen wird können.

We returned late Sunday night after not being able to return to Sioux Falls from Chicago because of the blizzard all over the Midwest. It was a long four days to Indianapolis and Chicago and made even longer by two losses.

I said at the very beginning of the season that I was sure that at Christmas the USHL would have some very good teams at .500. We are not even at .500, nor is Sioux City or even Fargo, so while I am not surprised, I am disappointed that we are one of those teams.

Building a team is a process and while I am disappointed with our record of 10-14-2, I also need to honestly evaluate our progress. We are making positive progress. The past five games leading into the break I thought would be an important test for us. Going into these last five games, I thought getting six of 10 points would be acceptable...we got only four.

We won the first two games against Omaha and Tri-City and then dropped three straight. That being said, we lost two of those three by scores of 2-1 (the last was 3-1 with an empty netter against). We have lost three 2-1 games in the past 7 games which is hard to take, but in all these three losses, we played well. We had good goaltending, played better defense and really in all three, had plenty of opportunities to score our share of goals…they just didn't go in. On Saturday against Chicago, we played well. The first goal of the game came as we were on the power play. A pass headed to a wide open Stampeder at the side of the goal was intercepted and brought up the ice and into our zone by the Steel. They made a nice play that was well defended by the stampede, but the shot deflected off a Stampede stick and took a bounce into the Stampede goal. PUCK LUCK, not in our favor. On the second goal, we made a mistake and could have prevented the goal, but games are not played without mistakes. We played well, we killed penalties like champs, made big saves when needed, scored a power play goal and generated some nice scoring chances all with good intensity, smart hard work...but we lost again.

In our last five games, we won two, lost two games 2-1 (yes 3-1 with the empty netter) but bottom line, we played four out of the five games very well, just not getting the results.

The Montreal Canadians have a power play that was number one most of last year, this year they are one spot from the bottom. That doesn't happen in football, a great offense like Payton Manning’s Colts don't go from first to last, maybe first to 8th, but not first to last. In hockey, how do these things happen...I am going to say performance of course, but also PUCK LUCK. The three 2-1 losses we have done everything a coach wants from his team, we just haven't gotten the puck in the net. These things do change and the only way they change is with persistence and hard smart work...we must stick with it!

In hindsight, we started the year a little too young on defense. Our young D core is corps. improving. Missing our one experienced D-man Max Grover for a month with a young D corp was difficult. The trade we made on defense was emotionally hard for me. I loved the two players we traded, great kids, but our addition of Sean Escobedo has really stabilized our D corp. The return of our best D (Grover) has made us better of course (he should be near 100% upon his return from Christmas break). Our goaltending has been good considering how many high percentage scoring chances we have given up but more importantly, we are seeing that when the team plays good, limits the higher percentage scoring chances, that our goaltending gets at least equally better. Our forwards are generating scoring opportunities and we need to stick with it as pucks will start going in the net as long as we keep generating chances.

We met with every player on the bus this past trip. We have kids who care and take pride in how they play. If they come back motivated and persistent, we have a chance to be one of the best teams in the league the second half. Our key player the second half might just be Patrick Divjak. Patrick is one our most talented players who if willing to play many selfless roles, including playing defense passionately, we could be very good.

Angeblich ist Patrick jetzt doch wieder in der Rolle eines Stürmers - also ich kenn mich nimmer aus was der Hartzell mit Divjak vorhat

sioux falls feiert einen klaren 5:1-heimsieg gegen tri-city und patrick divjak kann dazu 3 punkte beisteuern. mit 1 tor und 2 assists wird er außerdem zum 3rd star gewählt. damit hat er nun seine punkteserie auf 6 spiele in folge ausgebaut und hält nun bei 6 toren, 19 assists und +2 aus 29 spielen.

Divjak konnte in den letzten 6 Spielen 9 Punkte (2 Tore, 7 Assists) sammeln und kann indieser Spanne auf eine +/-Bilanz von +8 verweisen. Er hat mit 24 Punkten nach 29 Spielen bereits seine letztjährige Gesamtpunktezahl (23) übertroffen.

divjak nach 2 dritteln wieder mit 2 tore! und nach 3 minuten im letzten drittel legt er noch einen assist drauf und ist schon wieder bei +2! sioux gewinnt mit 4:3, matchwinner divjak mit 2T und 1 assist sowie +2 und 6 abgefeuerte schüsse!

Sehr gut. Patrick hat es anscheinend geschafft, den Vorschlag seinens Trainers umzusetzen: egoistischer zu sein und die Chancen selbst zu verwerten.
Freut mich wahnsinnig für ihn.

beide gingen verloren, gegen Lincoln 2:1 (-2) und gegen Waterloo 3:2 (-1, 4PIM)
