Former Canuck Kevin Primeau named coach of Austrian hockey club
VIENNA, Austria (AP) - Former Vancouver Canucks player Kevin Primeau will replace Mats Waltin as head coach of Austrian club Klagenfurter AC.
"We have searched the market thoroughly and Kevin was our top choice. We are glad to have him on board," Klagenfurt president Karl Safron said Friday. Waltin was fired on Oct. 31. The Swede led the team to second place last season, but this year Klagenfurt is bottom of the league after 14 rounds.
"We had to react, because KAC has a reputation to loose," Safron said. "We want to be among the top flight in Austria and we are convinced that Kevin will lead us back there."
Primeau signed a contract to the end of the season and will start on Monday.
The 49-year-old played for Team Canada and worked on the coaching staff of the Edmonton Oilers and German team Cologne.
